I'm officially a Bandster!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm thrilled to report that my Lap Band was successfully placed at Frederick Memorial Hospital (MD) on Friday, the 26th! After an overnight stay, I came home around dinnertime last night. The nursing staff could not have been more wonderful.

I am tired out, and sore, mostly from where Dr. McKenna repaired a small hiatal hernia, but otherwise, I feel pretty good. I had been doing pretty well, pain-wise, but it seemed like all at once, the gas rose up and pooled under my diaphragm- OUCH!!- I did some Gas-X strips, walked up and down my hallway at home, and used a heating pad, which seemed to help. More walking is planned for today.

Now, the journey really begins. I am excited, however, that I have already lost 24 pounds since starting my preop diet on January 26th, and my A1C has dropped from 6.6 to 5.3. I'm off the Metformin for now.

Thanks for all the support and advice so far-

Best, Chris

Congradulations and welcome to the "Bandhood". You are starting a journey that will make you happy, sad, frustrated, doubtful, and even mad at times. I've been on this journey for 2 1/2 months and have had all of the above feelings and more. Just keep in mind that everyone is different and we will all experience our journey in different ways. I visit this site often for inspiration and insight, as many others do. Best of luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
