Anyone ever do a Pre Pre Op diet???

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if any of you have done a PRE pre op diet??? Started before you were supposed to???

I have been doing this. My pre op doesn't OFFICIALLY start until 3/10 but I started changing my diet and drinking 1 Protein Shake a day. I have also given up soda completely and have been walking more.....I am drinking only Water and today I walked a whole mile....in spurts, but I did it:thumbup:

I am happy to report a loss of 9 pounds already....

Anyone else do or doing this????

Meg

I started modifying my eating habits; portion sizes and exercise regimen the day before my first consultation in September if that is what you mean.

I'm heading into surgery about 95 pounds leaner.

Take Care,

Meg

Yep, I did, too. Even before I attended the seminar, I was working on my weight. To be honest, I've been doing that my entire life! But I did start paring out foods I knew would not be a part of my regular repertoire post op--not, primarily, to lose weight (though that's always a bonus), but so that I'd have good alternatives in place. I also bumped up my exercise.

I didn't want to lose much more than the 6 pounds I was required to lose once the ball got rolling; I was afraid the insurance company would say, "Well, her BMI is too low, and she doesn't have two comorbidities..." (They're supposed to go by your starting weight, but I trust insurance companies about as far as I can throw them these days!)

Anyway, I think you're doing a great job, and your motivation shows that you're a great candidate for the band. You will do SO well!

Thanks!

I basically just cut my portions down by about 25% and began walking a lot. I've even thrown a tiny bit of running in.

I don't consider this a diet. I have not gone to bed hungry since I started and don't plan on going back to what I was doing.

I am building up my arsenal of tools:

  • Bodybugg
  • Treadmill
  • Lapband
  • Knowledge

I attribute a lot of my weight loss to the Bodybugg. It tells me how many calories I am burning. So, I know how many calories I can eat and still lose.

The treadmill takes away my excuses for not walking because of weather.

The lapband is going to be used to keep me honest with portions.

I came into this knowing quite a bit about weight loss but in my research of the lapband and reading the experiences of people here, I am learning quite a bit more. I try to do what the successful people have done and stay away from what the failures are doing.

Hi Megg. I am preparing for surgery early as well. No pop/caloric beverages, 1-2 Protein shakes per day, more Protein, less carbs, trying not to drink 30 min before and after eating. Regular exercise is next on my list - chasing after the kids apparently doesn't count for "regular" exercise.

I'll attempt walking on the treadmill tonight after the kids go to bed. 30 minutes is doable. I'd love to run but I really need to lose about 20 pounds before I venture into that again, or my knees will be the next things in surgery.

What you are doing is such great preparation...I really think it helps to get your brain wrapped around some changes before surgery day hits you like a brick wall.

I just wanted to say that I attended a required Lap Band support group meeting last week - about 75% were pre op - more than 25 people there! I was astonished at the lack of research some people have done and the lack of motivation they seem to have. In fact, I found myself getting angry with a couple of people (only in my head...I chose not to strangle them). They hadn't even read the information packet about the band and were already almost done with their pre-op tests. Holy heck people...it's surgery. If you don't know what a Protein shake is, you're in a sorry situation.

Anyhoo....good luck with your upcoming banding! I hope to have a date set this month since I finish my testing March 2nd.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
