Having surgery 3/25

Recommended Posts

I am having lap band surgery on 3/25. I live in CT but am having it in Mexico where my niece did 9 years ago. It was a very successful experience for her but I am starting to get a little freaked out because I am reading about everything that could go wrong. I am also getting a lot of heat from my family about going to Mexico but cost was a factor because this is self-pay. I am just getting very confused and nervous for the first time. I have been researching this so much I feel like I could perform the surgery myself but I guess between reading about what could go wrong and the pressure from my family, it is really bringing me down. Any advice anyone can give or any positive experiences that people have had going out of the country for this procedure would be helpful. I am also concerned about having a problem after the surgery, having to have it taken care of here, etc. My mind is just all over the place. Any help would be appreciated --

Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from. Pre-op stress is horrible as it is without any other side problems. I personally am way too freaked out to do it in mexico... My surgery is scheduled for March 26th, and I'm having a really good surgeon here in LA to do mine, however I'm FREAKING OUT about anything that can go wrong as well. I'm really causious (sp?) about this though, its my first surgery ever.

As far as Mexico, its all by chance. One of my best friend's grandmother did it in Mexico, and she's half of her size. She's very happy and the surgery went well. I think if you have an American Board Certified surgeon, you should be fine. I work at a medical office, and one of our patients did it in Mexico too. Everything went well. However, I heard that if you get the procedure done in Mexico, they wont do your fills here. You'll have to keep traveling back for the fills. You should find out about that too. :wink2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
