I have a confession:

Hi my name is Leigha and I have become a weight-loss snob.

I have been snarky to the newly banded, I have been rolling my eyes at the confused and I have been snickering at the plateaued. I am throughly ashamed of myself.

I guess it started with seeing posts that are the same as last weeks, but the person who wrote it wasn't here last week so how can I expect them to know? I was newly banded once, I was confused and I was plateaued and nobody treated me like that.

So I am going to make a commitment to try and help as many as I can even if they ask the same questions that have been asked to death, even if after I offer help they refuse it with a "yeah, but". I am going to be nice and positive even if they aren't. (Betsy is the best at this.)

Thank you for listening....

Where has our Betsy gone? Has anyone "talked" to her? I hope everything is going well for her and her fam.

Betsy was posting in a couple of the same threads as me today. She's around.

Like me, she probably has a lot of catching up to do here before posting.

Christie - Congrats on being able to eat. I can remember when I got my first teeth. I felt so good, I wet my diaper. I am not looking forward to my first unfill but that is way off. You should have seen the size of the sandwich I had for lunch and finished. Third fill next Wednesday.

Bobbie - You are such a poor sport. I'm sure the doctors were looking forward to putting their scope in your bum. Colonoscopies are fun if you get to watch but lately they have been knocking me out. It's kind of like watching The Discovery Channel, only it's your insides.

Denise - I drank nothing but Guinness and Bloody Marys for the past 5 days and lost 2 pounds. You should have passed up the mushrooms and drank more beer.

Stacie - Congrats on the halfway! I once lived in a halfway house.

Leigha - Slow down and stop showing off you weight-loss snob. ;)

Crystl - That room looks great. When you're done with your house, can you come do mine?

Shammah - Congrats on your success. Now get back to celebrating your anniversaries. Your man is waiting.

Jacki - Who gets dressed up to go to the zoo. You were just looking for an excuse to try on your skinny clothes. Congrats!!

Dotti - Try the 12 piece puzzles. Whoever put that "4 to 6 years" on the box is crazy. I can do them in a day and a half.

Anne - I can't think of anything witty to say yet but congrats on your progress and good luck with surgery!

Karen - Congrats on your boobs now where are these fun threads? They removed the erection one.

Betsy - I know you're out there lurking. Slow down on those walks. You're making me feel like a tortoise.

See, I actually do read this stuff sometimes ;)

I don't mind answering the same questions over and over. I actually have some notes that I copy and paste.

The ones I get pissed at are those that have nothing positive to say or obviously did zero research before having a stranger open them up and install hardware in them.

Bob-the third fill was the one that kicked my ass...good luck!

I must confess to much eye rolling too as I read other people's posts...I TRY to only say nice things but inside I'm thinking WTF? GO READ!!! Outside I pat and stroke or just ignore if I can't think of anything to pat and stroke about.

I am definitely looser and eating more than I've eaten in months and, for the first time in months, haven't lost an ounce...but that's okay. I figure I'll take a week or two to enjoy some of the things I've been missing (I can eat watermelon again!!!!!) and then get serious....

Yesterday I went to a funeral for a 14 year old boy. It was one of the most terrible things I've ever done and I am in awe of the grace with which the family is handling this...I, however, am a wreck and want to grab and hold Connor and never let go. Definitely puts things into perspective....

Take care and now that I have internet again I'll be back soon!

Bob/Brian (hehehe) -It is great to have you back! How was that halfway house? And just like Christie said...be careful. I too was able to eat a sandwich after fill #2. Fill #3 gave me some restriction and then fill #4 really kicked my ass. Not as much as Christie because I was able to eat, but not a whole lot. Obviously it got better or else I wouldn't be pondering fill #5.

Christie-glad you are back too...no funeral is ever "great", but I am sure that had to be absolutly horrible! My eyes well up just thinking about it, and I don't know what happened AND I don't have kids!

Stacie--LOVE the ticker!! You will be 'overweight' before you know it!!!! Congrats on making the first goal of 50 lbs lost! That's definitely an awesome milestone!!!!

Leigha--you are FAR from a weight loss snob. It's very frustrating to read posts from people that were banded a week ago and they've hit a plateau. I know it may not be their fault, as some surgeons don't prepare their patients for this and bandster hell, but it's still frustrating nonetheless. I think we all share your thoughts on this one.

Betsy--I miss you! Stop by when you get time (I know you're actually around helping people, but I'm being selfish and want to "see" you too )

Christie---Welcome back to the land of wireless connection! You were missed! I'm so sorry to hear about the funeral. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been, especially having a young child of your own. That really puts things into perspective to say the very least. The child and his family are in my prayers. The strength of some really is amazing.

HB --Hang in there, one more day until your fill!!!

I am back to 'blah'. Again, playing with the same 2 lbs, my bb is telling me I'm registering a deficit of at least 1,000 each day (which is what I should be doing to lose 1.5 lbs per week). Maybe I need to take my calories down (I have been averaging 1100-1200 per day). I have been exercising so much though it's insane!

I also notice I'm getting hungrier in between meals. I have noticed the biggest difference with this fill, but I am debating getting a small one to make it a bit tighter. Am I asking for trouble? I don't want to negate all the progress I've made in closing in on the sweet spot with having too much. Very conflicted right now....... Thoughts? Advice?

Karen -Thanks! and sorry no advice from me cause I am going through the same thing. I know I am so close to the "sweet spot" and some days I struggle to eat and others I eat like a horse. Tossing aroung the thought of like .1 or .2 cc's, but like you said scared to be too tight and then comes the unfill of who knows how much and then have to go back in for gradual fill. Argggg what to do what to do!!?? I am still losing...though it is slowing down...so maybe I'll wait a little longer.

I went to the doc for my 4-week appointment today and was expecting my fifth fill. I'm 5 months post-op, and have lost 40% of my EBW. I've had 4 fills and am at 6ccs. This last fill #4 was the first one where I actually felt anything resembling restriction. I have lost 7 pounds in the last 4 weeks (says the doc's scales -- different scale readings, doc and home! Plus, doc's weigh-in is never my weigh-in time, ya know? I ONLY weigh in sans clothing and in the bright early AM) with this fill and my surgeon says he expects 40% EBW loss in one year, and I'm there already. So, no fill today. Don't fix what ain't broken, says the doc. [bTW, I'm a rule-follower by nature.]

I can't say I wasn't upset at first, because I was just looking forward to the next progression of this journey, but feel great that I am doing so well. I've been really pleased with myself lately. It's been SOOO nice to get away from that plateau in May. When I lose 7 more pounds, I'm "overweight." When I lose just one more to make it 8 pounds, I'll be 50% there! I have an appointment in 6 weeks to re-evaluate, fill or no. It was an exciting little surprise today to find that my surgeon thinks I'm doing too well to fill.

Also, I asked about the gas/shoulder pain I feel maybe twice a week. He said that's an indicator of fullness, the gas from the pouch is redirecting to the shoulder. Does anyone else still get gassed shoulder pain?

Jacki,

You're doing great. You're losing weight at a good pace and approaching two major goals. All of this without this without that fifth fill. You're right to trust your doctor's opinion. He helped get you this far.

My third fill is scheduled for Wednesday. I can still finish a 6" sub bread and all. So, I have no doubt I'm getting it but we've read about a couple of unfills required here recently and I don't look forward to needing one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
