Christie--Happy Birthday, Don't y'all think we should say this to the Mom instead of the child? (Since you did all the work!) I just love little boys, they are so much fun. When my son was little I use to tell him, "your my favorite little boy" and he would tell me "your my favorite little girl", wow do I miss that.

HB--Only 27 to go! Even if your not posting your doing great! Size 14! I agree Woo Hoo!

Betsy--I'm glad you like your BB, I really like mine too but I just don't like what its telling me, I really don't want to face reality.

So here is my reality that the BB is making me face. I am back down to 144, my 3 pound gain from eating the BB meal plan is gone but I have a decision to make. I drink a glass of wine at night, this is the only thing that keeps my diet from being perfect. (OK I also have a small Andy's frozen custard on Sunday nights so maybe not perfect but close) So I have increased my burn calories and I am eating the same 800-1000 calories a day. I have logged a 850-1250 deficit every day since I got my BB but I am still not losing the 2 pounds a week that I should be. (I weigh and measure everything so I feel like my logs are true) So I either have to give up my glass of wine (which I log, BTW) or I have to accept that it is going to take longer than July 4th to lose this last 14. :redface:

Or I can give up on the last 14 cause my husband says I am starting to "look like a man".:smile2:

You know, the body is a weird thing, Leigha. We are told we "should" lose a certain amount of weight if we have a certain deficit, but that's only part of the picture.

We don't just burn fat. We build muscle. We retain Fluid. All kinds of other things happen as we lose fat.

So the scale doesn't always show the loss our calorie deficit "should" produce.

You exercise. Hard-worked muscles rely on lactic acid fermentation to produce energy; the byproduct is lactic acid--the stuff that makes us sore sometimes. Because the body likes to maintain homeostasis, having lactic acid in muscle tissue creates an imbalance it wants to correct; to even out the concentration of lactic acid, Fluid moves into the muscles.

This produces the "pumped" look that bodybuilders strive for. For those of us who don't relish any additional plumpness, though, it just shows up as a bunch of extra Water weight on the scale.< /p>

That's one thing that affects weigh-ins. Because of this, I avoid "official" weigh-ins for at least 24 hours after a hard workout. The body is pretty efficient at returning the fluid to circulation and excreting it, with the lactic acid, via the kidneys. But it doesn't always manage to do it before we hop on the scale--and we get bummed.

Also take into consideration that you're building muscle tissue. It doesn't happen quickly---so you're not adding pounds per week. (It takes about 8 weeks of working a muscle group HARD to build a pound of muscle, they say.) Still---you've got lots of muscle groups in your body, and the cumulative effect can be enough to sort of seem to cancel out fat loss. Of course, it does nothing of the kind! You are still losing fat---but you are simultaneously building muscle tissue.

This sucks at the scale sometimes, but (a) rocks when it comes to measurements, and (:redface: results in a body that burns more calories than the fatter (albeit not as much more heavy than you'd like) body.

Finally, add to this that you are very, very close to goal. As a smaller woman, your body simply needs and burns fewer calories than it did when you were overweight. Loss is simply going to be slower going. Yes, the BB should "tell" you this.

But things just aren't as black and white as a Body Bugg tells you.

You're doing a fantastic job.

back - the part of the body between the loin and the withers.

brisket - the chest of the dog.

carpals - the wrist, the bones of the pastern joint.

Good Afternoon, my friends!

I'm smiling like crazy today :-) I feel great, the sun is shining here, and I've lost the 4 pounds I gained!

Soooo, where to start ...

Christie - I'm so sorry you're feeling blue. I don't have children, so I can't honestly say I know how you feel. However, for those of us with fur babies, we DO understand that day we realize our babies arent kittens, or puppies any longer. When did they get so big? When did they grow up? I realize its not exactly the same, but the feeling of Loss, so to speak, is the same. ((HUGS)) oh, rabid pack of chickens? LOL I almost peed myself when i read that !! :laugh:

HB - a size 14 ??? SWEET !!!! I'm SO looking forward to wearing a 14. Because then you can shop anywhere! They're the biggest size in a regular store, and the smallest size in a plus store - the best of BOTH worlds... Congrats! :redface:

Leigha - DON"T give up the wine! It's your one and only real splurge. Life should be enjoyed. So ENJOY it! I agree that it will just take a bit longer. But this is a lifestyle, remember? You shouldnt pressure yourself with dates, and deadlines... But i doubt you're looking much like a man!! LOL I think you look amazing! :w00t:

Hey Bets - how many calories did you end up burning before nightfall?? LOL I had a great image in my head of you - chanding clothes as fast as you can, and literally running around the house, the block, cleaning, yard work, whatever you could muster up to do - all in fast forward motion! It made me giggle outloud ... :smile2:

All you BB people - thats so awesome that you all got it and like it. I've been on the fence ever since MIA BOB mentioned it a few months back. I don't have the funds, but i think the tool would be invaluable if used ( for me , USED would be the key word lol ) So i ordered a Fitbit... its the same principle, but less expensive < Fitbit > its smaller also. So, we'll see :-) I'll let you know how it is once i get it. they're on back order until june 15. :wink2:

And a big WOOHOO to all the NSV's out there ! I also had one at my scrapbooking retreat. I wore an outfit i wore there just last October, and i swam in it! I didnt realize i had lost 35 pounds since then! And all the gals noticed it :-) it was sooo great for my ego at this time to have some possitive feedback! :tt2:

I start my new job on monday ! I've been a grazer the past few months, and really need to get back to the 3 Squares a day ... working 8-5, m-f should be a HUGE help in that department. I'm not one to drink my meals, so I need to ask - is it ok to eat a couple / few hours after i wake up for my first meal? I know we're supposed to eat w/in an hour or so, right? But I just can't have much besides coffee. I was thinking cottage cheese or yougurt around 10 am. Would this throw everything off? I assume lunch will be around 12 or so, and i'll be eating supper between 530 - 630. I'm hoping this will work for me, and Onderland and I will become fast friends :tt1:

I'd give anything if we all could meet for a weekend. Find a central spot, and spend a weekend laughing, crying, chatting, sharing and supporting ... just a pipe dream , i guess... :crying:

I need to fly to tthe store, Any suggestions on portable Breakfast and lunch ideas are welcome :lol:

OMG--the diagram! It's killing me---I aspirated iced tea when I saw it! :redface::laugh::smile2: (I had no idea Truman has a brisket...now I'm really eyeballing him! For the record, his flews are my favorite part. He is a very good kisser.)

Bobbie--hooray for the new job! I'm so happy for you.

I actually did change clothes to rack up calories burnt yesterday! I manually added my morning walk, then mowed the front lawn and took another 4-ish mile walk in the evening. By the time all was said and done, I'd used 2345 for the day---not too shabby!

I've been motivated today, too---first a walk, then the mowing the back yard, then shopping. Now I'm heading out to the gym...and will do another walk tonight.

I agree, it would be SO fun to all get together!

Sometimes its just too serious in here....gotta smile and liven things up a little! 10days post op and starting to feel normal again.....

I follow alot of threads to stay on top of my band.

Trust me, I know where she is. I have been in a grouchy mood for the last 2 days, just about had it with liquids...and Im trying to control myself. The whole dog thing sounded really yummy when I read it.....so I googled it since I have two dogs of my own and a Cat.....

YUMMMMMMMMMY

And, there arent enough boyz in here! I feel outnumbered and odd since I cant talk about girl things. I mean I could.....but....

You can talk about whatever you want, Dblex. But you probably should tell us your real name so we know what to call you :redface: (I have cats, too; the funniest thing I ever saw was a marquee sign outside a Chinese restaurant. It really belonged to a pet store nearby, but the juxtaposition was priceless. It said, "We have kittens! Meow! Meow!" Mmmm. Kittens....<drool>)

Okay, my weight-lifting regimen burns just a paltry number of calories. I should have known that, because Fitday has told me the same thing forever. I did not want to believe Fitday, but now it is confirmed.

OTOH, shopping was oddly gratifying, in terms of calorie burn. This is particularly good to know, given that it is fast becoming a favorite pastime, after years of dormancy. I noted that the calorie burn increased as the number of items I was carrying increased.

Perhaps we should put out an exercise DVD featuring cardio-shopping.

Hi Ron, Welcome. And hello to all.

Thought I should tell you a little about myself. I'm 48, married to a wonderful guy (will be celebrating our 25th) in September. We don't have kids, but a great "rescue" dog.

I''ve struggled with weight most of my adult life, and even managed to lose almost 100lbs when I was 41, through sheer determination, hot yoga, and running. Did pretty well for about 3 years then injured my knee (had knee scoped in 2007), never really "recovered" well and that with my mom suddenly passing away, managed to gain most of it back. I contemplated Lap Band for about a year and then finally in March decided to just go for it. Can't believe it's done and I'm on my way to a healthier me. It's really encouraging to read about where everyone is in their journey and for the first time in a long time I feel incredibly optimistic. Haven't been in that place in a long while.

I'm 11 days post-op today and felt great (the "tired") seemed to disappear overnight. Went for a long walk outside today since we finally have some spring weather here in Calgary. Hard to believe that less than 2 weeks ago when I had to fly to Vancouver for surgery we thought my flight was going to be cancelled for a heavy snowfall. Yes, spring in Canada!!!!!

I'm starting to explore the BB.......... my hubby just rolled his eyes. Sounds like a great tool. Similar to the Polar Heart rate monitor I used when I was running. Wonder what it would be like to wear in a Hot Yoga class. You REALLY sweat in that 90 minutes.

Sedona is beautiful. We are having a blast with my sister and brother-in-law. My fur-niece and Butters are doing great together! Butters' private lessons paid off!

My pressure is still very low. Any one know how the vagus nerve is affected by the band, and how that can affect pressure? This is crazy.

Well hopefully tomorrow will bring higher blood pressure!

Welcome from me, too, Ron and Katie! The dog diagram is priceless! And good to hear from you, Kristie and Crystl aka HB- you were missed! I'm sure Bob is holding the chickens hostage rather than the other way around. Hello to the rest of the gang and whatever sundry attached gadgets- BBs and IPads and log beds and whatever! Cardio-shopping- that's a good one.

All quiet here on the eastern front, but I am making progress. Day 4 of pre-op shakes beginning, 3 days so far so good. Not easy, though. But- down a pound and a half. Maybe I'll be in Onederland by the time of surgery!

Wii Fit is cute, even if I am stuck in the basic of basic levels. Never was good at games, but we'll see. The BB feels like graduate school and I'm still in kindergarten. But- journeys of a thousand miles beginning with single steps, etc, etc.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
