Does anyone have experience with Cigna Insurance

:faint: My worst CIGNA nightmare came true today. After repeatedly talking to our HR benefits coordinator and calling CIGNA's benefits coordinator for our healthplan I found bariatric surgery is EXCLUDED on our plan. Then my almost bestest dream came true.:clap2: Today was the LAST day to switch insurance at my husbands job. The best part it is United and it states in the benefits hand book that bariatric surgery IS a benefit. So tomorrow they are supposed to mailout our new insurance cards. My current PCP and LapBand Doc are approved providers so I won't have to switch docs.

So I think I dodged a bullet on this one. My husband said if I hadn't been a bulldog about digging, digging, digging we would have never known and would have paid for it ourselves.

Now before anybody gets up in arms I will stay with this insurance as long as it is offered thru his job. :Banane41: :) :Banane20: :Banane31: :Banane18: :Banane28: :Banane48: :Banane04: :Banane47: :Banane05: :Banane35: :Banane03: :Banane21: :Banane43: :Banane32: :xena_banana:

Way to go, bulldog. I'm getting ready to leave my job and was trying to decide if I'd stick with Cigna under COBRA or buy a new policy. I wanted to buy a United HC policy since they do cover it, but they don't sell individual policies in my state. Bummer.

To answer the original poster's question: Cigna was a nightmare for me. They verbally gave approval to my Dr.'s office and we scheduled the surgery. Then, they denied the claims. I appealed, used a lawyer, etc., without success.

Now I have to have the band removed and they just denied pre-approval on that. Memo to my family: if I die of band-related complications because Cigna wouldn't pay for the removal, please sue Cigna.

Good luck.

Oh wow. COBRA insurance is expensive. We did that about five years ago for a while and the premiums cost an arm and a leg for sure. I hope you can find an individual policy soon. M:omg:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
