How many Calories do you eat?

Recommended Posts

Just curious about how many calories my fellow bandsters are eating daily? Im 31, 5'11 and fairly active. I work out daily, and work as a Nurse (means no sitting down!) lol. Im eating from 900-1000 calories daily and am stuck in terms of loss. How many calories do you guys eat daily, and what seems to work best?? Thanks!

I'm eating the same as you. Try varying your workout routine and add extra intensity.

I avg. around 600-800 calories per day. I am not a total couch potato, but not working out either.

I'm female, 42, 5ft 10, very active (run or do boot campe 5 x per week, work as a teacher, on my feet all day) and I ate around 1500 a day to lose.

I think you might be UNDER eating, but really, you've lost a LOT and it does slow down and become very stop start. Just keep at it and eventually it will start coming off again. It took me an entire year to lose the last 10lb. I guess I could have eaten less, but I was happy enough at the higher weight, and I'm very active and now I can eat whatever I want without gaining so I'm really glad that I've obviously preserved lean body mass and have a healthy metabolism.

Increase your calories. Studies show that women who eat between 1200-1400 calories lose faster and more steadily than those who eat 1000 and below.

I'm 53, 5'4" and I eat anywhere from 1200-1400. In a 7 day period, I may actually have a day where I eat about 1600 (cuz I splurged on something).

I read an article a long time ago that said if you want to shake up your metabolism, change the way you eat. Don't let your body get used to it. They recommended 3 days of absolutely no carbs and then 4 days where you could have carbs. Then repeat. I had a friend who steadily lost weight with never hitting a plateau and she ate around 1600 calories a day.

Have you ever heard of calorie cycling? I just read about it and it makes a lot of sense. It talks about changing up the calories that you eat daily while eating the same amount weekly. That way your body doesn't get used to that same amount and stop losing. Check out this link:

Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs

It looks like it's just a way to figure out how many calories to eat, but look down a little further and click on 7 day calorie zigzag and it will give you a break down.

I'm going to start this Monday and I'll let you know how successful I am. :cursing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
