5 weeks post-op, had my first fill today, scale is stalled...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying NOT to feel discouraged at 5 weeks post-op and *only* 18 pounds lost. I say, *only* because while I fully realize that 18 pounds lost in 6 weeks, with the preop liquid week figured in, is amazing!), I come here and see others that are close to my BMI and my surgery date that have lost so much more.

I just got my first fill today, 2 ccs in my 10 cc band. Doc says I'm doing okay, and this is the time for the fill with the stall. I know I'm doing okay, but I'm still trying to fight away feelings of discouragement.

How do you guys keep from being discouraged? I need to know it's going to be okay and that I'll get there. I will, right?!

Of course you will get there.Slow and steady wins the race remember.

You also shouldn't measure yourself against other people - everyone is different.

Try not to compare yourself to others. 18 pounds in 6 weeks is awesome! Also, realize that some people are on a pre-op diet for much much longer than one week so their overall weightloss will be much higher even if you had surgery around the same time. There are some people who got banded around the same time as I did who lost 40+ pounds pre-op!

Of course, there are some that are just gonna lose faster than you no matter what because different people's bodies respond to dieting/exercise differently. Your body is the only one you have so you gotta work with it and not worry about how it compares to others.

For me, I will be ecstatic if I can lose 10 pounds per month. Just think if you can lose 10 pounds per month, you will be at your goal by sometime in August! Now that doesn't seem too slow does it? :->

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
