I am exactly two weeks post-op and have started having sharp pains down my esophagus. I wish I could burp and I would feel better Also I have pain in my back and shoulders, just like gas pains. Any suggestions???

Oh I can sympathize! I had the same thing for weeks post op! I wanted to burp soooooo bad but just couldn't....and when I did it was almost like it surprised me! SOOOO loud and drawn out! I am a sweet girl from the south originally and was raised being told ladies don't burp in public and let me tell you, all of that went out the window after this surgery! LOL Once I was able to burp, I felt so much better! The pain in your shoulders and back is most likely gas that's trapped and once you can burp, it will move!

If you are experiencing serious pain you really should check in with your doctor. Most of us on these boards are patients with a tremendous amount of useful experience, but we are not a substitute for your doctor.

Please keep me posted.

As a nurse I have first hand knowledge that this is related to the surgery/anesthesia and may last up to a month. Walk-move do not lay around. Gas-X.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
