On the lighter side... I've heard from friends who've had the procedure about how quickly they're dropping sizes. I've been a plus size for awhile and have a collection of some beautiful career clothes - clothes I'd want to wear even if I weren't size 24. I know there's only so far a good tailor can go.

Clue me in - how often am I going to be downsizing? Has anybody heard anything about bariatric clothing exchanges or consignment shops.

It's a happy problem to contemplate, but I can see the sweat on my husband's upper lip at the thought of the potential clothes horse I could become. Stop me before I shop again!:smile2:

I am SOOOOO looking forward to going shopping after I lose weight! My closet is already overflowing... I can only imagine how much worse it's about to get!

I don't know about your area, but our local Lap-band support group hosts a clothing exchange at our monthly meetings. You may look into that, or perhaps consider starting one!

A couple of other thoughts...

eBay has some AMAZING deals on new and gently used clothing in all kinds of sizes...search on women's plus size clothing to check it out. Recently, a 45-item lot, mostly new with tags, of size 18-20 career level clothing worth probably $600-$800 retail went for less than $200.

Checking Goodwill and/or local consignment stores might also snag you great clothes at a bargain...and donating your outsize clothes to Goodwill nets you a tax deduction (be sure to keep your receipts).

Hope this helps!

Hugs, Christine

Also, if you are unable to sell/consign and are going to donate, there are organizations who help women who are job searching to obtain business style clothing. These are often women who are in recovery or have come from abusive situations and really need a hand up. Many of these women are plus sized, so any donation of plus size clothing is very appreciated.

Building on this....I used to be a Domestic Violence Investigator at our PD before I quit to homeschool our special needs son in 08. I know that in our town, the Battered Women's Shelter operates a "Resale Shop," which is open to the public. All of their profits go straight back to the shelther for operating expenses, etc. Of course, the shelter occupants receive free vouchers for clothing, etc., but many people don't realize that these types of shops are often open to the public as well.

I think that's also a great way to help support your local shelter, AND get some nice clothes on the cheap!! You may check with your local shelter and see if they offer this in your area! :mad2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
