I really want to have the surgery but I have two friends who have had it... and they vomit all the time! Just about after every meal... Why does this happen? If I have the surgery will I have to deal with that for the rest of my life? :smile2:

You shouldn’t be vomiting. If you are you need to contact your doctor. More than likely they need to take smaller bites and chew chew chew. Also DON'T over eat. These are all things that cause vomiting. Also if you feel stuck don't keep eating. Walk it off till you feel better then finish.

Being banded and having true restriction involves following rules. As the PP stated you must take small bites, chew, chew, chew, eat slowly and not over eat. If you don't follow the rules you will have many problems. You must be committed to changing the way that you eat or you will have problems. And vomiting all the time can cause your band to slip and you will have further complications. Hope this helps. Best wishes!!!

i suggest you give Nina a call, she's Dr. Aceves patient coordinator and she'll gladly fill you in on all the necessary information. goodluck!!!

What THE!!!!

Why should she call NINA?

When are you going to stop advertising and trying to directly influence clients. Dr Aceves is obviously paying you a handsome sum for referrals.

Enough already!

Like so many have said here, they shouldn't be vomiting frequently. The truth of the matter is, if we don't chew really well, learn to slow down, and learn not to overstuff ourselves, our bands will tell us - in the form of discomfort or bringing food back up (notviolent like normal vomiting). You can't overeat (can you say: stuff our faces with solid foods when you have a band) The key is to learn to work this tool so that you can dine, enjoy your food, and not overstuff yourself. I've learned to do that and it's a blessing. I travel, go our for busness dinners, enjoy the holidays and the great food, and I get to wear cute clothes!

Does that help?

Could be they're too tight and need a slight unfill. Could be they just won't stop when they know they should. Could be they're slow learners when it comes to remembering which foods give them problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
