Hi I am Vixian, I am 19 yrs old, and i weight about 310lbs (height is 5'4" and bmi 53.2)

Lately i have been really depressed out my weight i cant find clothes that fit that i like. So i have been looking into lap-band. I currently need to check on my insurance to see about it paying or not because from what i can tell i have an extreme case, and i just wanted to know what are the risks (other than death) and the side affects?

I definately know where you are coming from I'm 28 and have battled my weight and depression related to it for most of my life. I just went to a consult with my local lap band surgeon and he said there are only 2 risks and both are very highly unlikely to happen..the first is the errosion of the band and the other is slipping of the band. Neither lead to death and he has only seen each of the happen once his entire time and he does over 100 bands a year. I hope this helps some. As far as your insurance, I just called my insurance company up before I called the doctors office and told them I was thinking about it. They were supppperrr nice and told me all about the coverage. ...

Well I think I am really read to say this. I truly want to do this. I am not worried about the side affects anymore.. I am more worried about what will happen if i don't do this.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
