Plastic Surgery Tips After Losing 250 Lbs

Recommended Posts

7 Things I Learned About Plastic Surgery

I’m Sandi. I was banded almost 6 years ago and have lost 250 lbs. I love Banded Living.

Needless to say I was left with a lot of excess skin, so I chose to have plastic surgery, and I’ve been really happy with the results. I’ve had a lower body lift, breast lift and augmentation, and had the batwings under my arms removed.

I’m glad I did my homework before surgery.

Here are the 7 things, I learned about plastic surgery after weight loss surgery:

1. Interview several doctors

2. Easy access to your surgeon is important for follow up care.

3. Experience with weight loss surgery patients is critical.

4. You must be totally comfortable with this doctor.

5. Let your weight stabilize for at least 6 months before having surgery

6. You want a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

7. Make sure the surgeon uses an accredited facility.

If you would like to learn more, check out my blog at Sandi’s Banded Living

I’d be interested in your feedback.

Hey Sandi. You've always had great advice. I love the way you put it...

"So I went on to start investigating the second thing I said I would NEVER do in my life – plastic surgery. The first thing I said I would never do was weight loss surgery "

Both as my friend and as my mentor on this Banded Living journey I loved reading this post on your blog. The tips are great!

Sue:

I agree with you - the pain is definitely worth it. Thank goodness our brains are wired to forget pain so that by 3 weeks after PS you are more results oriented than remembering the pain oriented. I was able to tolerate the pain immediately after my lower body lift when the nurse who helped me to the restroom and held my hospital gown closed in the back exclaimed- You havea cute butt! He does such good work! Throuhg my drugged stupor after 11 hours of surgery I knew that I had done the right thing...I also love my flat tummy, my muscled arms and the girls are where they belong now. After all of my hard work I frigured if I could scratch up the money I DESERVED to really enjoy my new body.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
