TOM is visiting me for the first time since surgery and he's much heavier than before...What's with that? I try not to even look at the scale while TOM's hanging around but it's so hard not to!

TOM and scale--no go:thumbdown:. It is the only thing that kills my daily weigh ins. I see those swollen ankles from Water retention, and just say forget it!! My birth control pills lacks estrogen because my OB/GYN did not want me to gain weight and defeat the purpose of my band nor increase risk of blood clotting. So far no problems, but TOM came a week early last month--cramps are already severe, so I take Naproxen during that time

I'm expecting TOM next week and you know what? I'm sooo with you! I'm NOT looking at that scale until that unwelcomed visitor has left! I am on regular birth control pills and while TOM only stays for 3 or 4 days, the wrath of Fluid retention he brings stays much longer.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Thanks for sharing this information, I was planning to call the doctor's tomorrow, now I won't let calling slip. Take care!

I called this morning and got an appointment for March 4th, which made me think, ok so no big deal here. The Nurse called me back within the hour and while she was clear there was no reason to panic, she was also clear they need to stop TOM. So, if the expected blizzard bypasses us they will get me into the office tomorrow !

Of course, TOM has slowed up on her own... it's like she heard me call the Dr.

Good! Let me know what they do for you in case I need to light a fire under my doc’s butt if TOM doesn’t take a break soon.

They just told me to increase my Iron supplement for now. I think TOM is gone (crossing my fingers) as there was nothing there this morning. But I thought that it was over yesterday and it started again later, so I don’t know. But it is not nearly as bad as it was a few days ago. Still irritating as heck, and not knowing when it’s going to stop and start is a bummer. My hubby and I were wanting to plan a weekend get away next week, but I’m afraid to make reservations because TOM may show up unannounced again!

Update... my TOM is gone and thankfully he did take all his Water weight with him and I am finally down a pound from my lowest weight before TOM. Whew! I was afraid some of the weight was 'real' because I haven't been perfect either. TOM brought me chocolates this time. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
