weight loss programs

Recommended Posts

I've reached a plateau. I have not lost any weight in the last four months. My nut suggested I join a weight loss program, e.g. weight watchers. Has anyone joined a weight loss program after being banded?

I have not yet, but I saw NUtri System at costco for like $258.00 for 30 days worth of meals... I have considered trying that just to learn Portion Control and to boost my weight loss...

If I get the 6-month position to go to NYC for my company, I may just do it since I won't have to cook for or feed anyone else... Thats a great bargain for a month of food for one person.... But kinda spendy if you still have to buy food for a family....

Before ordering NutriSystem's blechy (IMO) food, check out bandtasticmeals.com.

My surgeon's office got samples, and said they were outstanding. I only tasted one of the items (I was fresh postop), and it really was very, very good.

The prices are very reasonable, as well.

I tried a few of the nutrisystem meals and I thought they were gross. Well, the breakfasts were ok, but the dinners were not appealing. I only tried 2 or 3 things. A friends had signed up for autoship and had more than she knew what to do with.

Do not do Nutrisystem. I was on it for 2 months. I hated it after the first few weeks but forgot to cancel so I got stuck with a 2nd month! The food is not good at all. The only thing I really liked was the chocolate bites- go figure! All the dinners tasted exactly the same. Save your money! I wish I had!

Does anyone know anything about Jenny Craig's food? (flavor etc)

Jenny Craig is foul, IMO---the food just is not good quality.

I get most of my Proteins from Market Day (it's a school fundraising thing, if you're not familiar). The meats are frozen in individual portions, which makes meal prep 1000 times easier.

But I, too, am about to place a Bandtastic order---I'm a good cook, but I don't always feel like cooking, especially at lunchtime. Being able to grab an individual portion prepared by a real chef (who happens to be banded) is very appealing to me.

Jenny Craig? Blah. Not at all appealing.

I have been a member of Weight Watchers for about 4 years now, and I'll continue going to the weekly meetings probably the rest of my life. I need that weekly weigh in, and the 30 minute support. My surgeon has a monthly support group meeting but its 1 hour and 1/2 away, and to be honest I didn't get a lot out of it. I found at the support group it was mostly people complaining of fill issues, etc. I found that they didn't deal with the support for the reason why we needed banding to begin with; our love/hate relationship with food. WW isn't a diet, it teaches you to change to a healthy lifestyle, which I think goes hand and hand with the band. This is just my opinion, and what seems to work for me.

Enjoy your day!

Did your nut say why they recommended a weight loss program. I ask because the only thing a 'program' will do is provide a formal structure. It won't necessarily kick you off your plateau.

If you've hit a plateau, it means the calories you're taking in are equal to the calories you're expending. There are some minor variables, but whether we lose or gain has more to do with the calories we eat and expend.

You might try going to an online calculator that uses the Harris-Benedict equation to calculate how many calories you need to sustain your goal weight and your current weight. Then journal your daily food. You might find you need to lower the calories you're eating or expend more energy.

If you need the accountability that some programs provide, they're probably useful. If not, their program won't necessarily cause you to start losing...well, maybe money, but not necessarily pounds.

Please do. The meals sound good, but I don't like not having pictures.

My nut said sometimes you need to change your eating pattern to rev up your metabolism. I did not get much from the support groups either. I joined WW this morning and the 30 minute support meeting has given me more motivation that I've felt in a while. NH-Pam; I agree with you 100%. Ater reading your comments, I'm really glad I joined WW. ElfiePoo; I agree with your comments and thank you for your suggestions. I do believe I need the accountability of a structured program.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
