Almost went in for an unfill then relaized it was me & my bad eating habbits

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of going in for an unfill because I was finding it hard to eat certain foods, but my sister & the nurse from my Dr.'s office helped me realize I was eating the wrong foods or eating the wrong way. To begin I went in about 3 weeks ago because I felt too loose and I had been eating just about anything and gained some weight... (about 5 lbs) The Dr. said I had not gained but what she didn't know and later found out through me, was that I had lost more weight since I saw her last but that through bad eating habbits that resurfaced ie.(eating and drinking, not chewing food down all the way) I had gained a few lbs. She filled me and I went on my way. I was doing ok and then started to plateu and regurgitate Water or food that had not gone down, pretty soon I would try eating things I knew were not ok to eat, because they down (candy). I would also eat different things if I was out with people I did not want to tell I had the band. I believe my band had some swelling around it and almost went in today for an unfill. I called the Dr.'s office and explained to the nurse that I really thought something was wrong, she asked me if I was eating too fast, drinking when eating, eating foods that were not right and then my sister confirmed it for me when I told her the same. They both told me to stick to liquids for a few days till swelling goes down. i'm having Soup now but would like to know if anyone has experienced anything like this.

Going through that right now. I too am basically eating everything in sight. I'm going for a fill tomorrow, and I don't know how much I've gained, but I still can't eat and drink at the same time.. For a hot minute there, I thought my band had slipped because I had no restriction, it wasn't until I started PB'ing that I was like ok, still in place.

I've fallen into the "crap trap" too... candy, chips, etc, Giving in to cravings, and just being hungry most of the time. I also realized that I bloat really easily. Last night, is a prime example. I felt like I was going to explode... to the point it hurt walking. but I resorted to matters that aren't necessarily healthy... Gas-Ex & Sennacot, I realize today, it was my "quick fix" to feeling guilty for what I ate yesterday, almost like an "out of body out of mind" type thing. the quickest fix for getting rid of the crap.

We are all in this together. We are here for each other, and your not alone in this. Just a bump in the road. We'll get through it.

Yep, we all hit bumps in the road. And we all have bad eating habits that we need to conquer because let's face it, we didn't get fat in the first place by eating right. And it's so d@mn frustratingly ironic that chips, ice cream, shakes, pudding, and other goodies will go right on though the band without problem, but try to get healthy foods through and you get stuck. So, I guess it's a case of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." If we can't beat the band (eat what you want and lose weight) then we have to join the band (eat the right way for the band and lose weight).

This is such a learning experience! And like Sarah said, we're all in this together! :mad2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
