Ready 2 be banded & say goodbye to PCOS and other issues!!

Recommended Posts

I have completed all of my preop testing, last dr appt for 6mth diet and nutrition this week and hoping my insurance approves my surgery! Talked to them last week and was told as of right now the preauth is still denied-which I knew. Due to the 6mth program and testing that they require. So nervous about being approved!

Also decided only to tell a few people that I am having the surgery..my husband and son and a few close friends. No one at work knows, they are so judgemental, this is for ME. I know athat this will help me meet my goals and feel better about myself.. There is a skinny girl inside screaming to get out!! LOL.

I have been heavy all my life...lost a ton of weight in high school in one summer and since married gained a ton back.

Have PCOS and infertility issues, endometrosis, am hypothyroid and it all sucks!! Want to get healthy and off meds for the issues I have,

will be 40 in June and ready to start the 2nd half of my life....

wish me luck!

Hi Mimi. I just wanted to say that I also have a nasty case of PCOS that I'm hoping will be put into remission after banding (and subsequent weight loss). I also had the infertility issues from PCOS, but, well, I ended up with three kids. Kid two was with injectables and kid three was Surprise! from taking Vitex for a year for the PCOS symptoms.

I hope to get my date set for the middle of March...glad to see you'll probably be banded around then, too! Good luck!

Erika

I completely relate with both of your posts. I am only 26 and was diagnosed with PCOS at 19 I have lots of fear that if I dont get control over my weight then my PCOS symptoms will worsen. I am recently divorced and so ready to take back my life. I am very nervous but really excited about looking into the lap band further. Thanks for your words of hope!

I too have PCOS and this is pretty much the for the lapband surgery, obviously for the weight loss as well. I have met the man of my dreams and we are getting married in Nov 2011 and we have discussed having kids. I'm just hoping that I can get my PCOS under control and be able to have kids a few years down the road. I'll be 30 in a few weeks and I can't wait to start a new decade and a new me! Good luck ladies.

I also have PCOS and surgery scheduled for March 11th. Currently on the Optifast shakes. My husband and I have been married for a little over a year and after my surgery (well after) plan to try to start having children. I wish you all luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
