Hello, My name is Robin and I live in Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Trace Curry performed my LAP-BAND®® surgery on 2/15/10 I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. I think the recovery from the hernia repair is more difficult than the actual LAP-BAND®®, anyone else think that that went thru what I did ? The breathing in heavy hurts so bad and coughing is a killer. Starting to wear off now some, but now most of my pain is now to the right of my belly button maybe up a little bit, feels like a pulling sensation whener I walk and move my right leg when I walk it pulls. I seem to be doing pretty good on my pureed diet with getting in my Protein and the right amount of fat & carbs seems to be going pretty well. I am now 6 days out and have lost 9.5 lbs is that normal to lose that much the 1st week ? Thanks for reading and good luck everyone....Robin

I thought the hiatal surgery repair was worse than the lap band. It was really hard to take that deep breath.

I also walk in the mornings when it is cold and that cold air makes it hurt.

I am five months out now and I can say the last month has been a lot better. I do think it adds to the recovery time.

Good luck on the recovery. It just took me a little longer. I had no pain from the lab band part of the surgery at all.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
