Different surgeons do VERY different things. Some people get a fill while in surgery then another 2 weeks later. It seems most of us get one at 2, 4, or 6 weeks post-op but I have read a few people who didn't get their first until 6 (SIX!!!!) months. As far as weight loss, while you're on liquids it tends to be fairly fast so no, you're doing fine (great in fact). Keep up the good work!!!

Your body sometimes knows what you need. It may be that you are craving a good protien. Are you getting enough protien and if so is it a high quality protien?

It absolutely makes no sense to me why some doctors make their patients wait 3 months for a fill...unless they are ignorant of how the band works.

Until you get restriction, which you won't get until you get your fills, that band is just a lump of plastic.

I had my first fill at 4 weeks post op and then a fill every 2 weeks. At *less* than 3 months I had restriction and I've been losing weight steadily since then.

I can't even imagine the waste of time in not getting fills for 3 months.

Maybe her Dr. gave her a fill when the band was installed. She should ask. Also if she does not feel that schedule is right for her maybe she can look into a new Dr. I did not get my first fill untill 2 months.

My surgeon's policy is no fill until 8 weeks post-op. It can seem frustrating when you read about people getting fills much sooner. Personally, I am glad that my surgeon takes a more conservative approach to fills as I believe this prevents complications over the long term. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
