I have a few sips from time to time. But often it gives me the hiccups.

I find it just isn't worth the possible discomfort, and possible waste of money. If my husband orders a soda (rarely), I might steal a sip, but otherwise, I leave it alone.

I tried to drink one (it is allowed after being banded a year, go figure!) and the gas pain and pressure were unbearable. I couldn't burp properly and it was a miserable experience. Pre-band I drank 6-8 cans of Diet Coke a day. Good luck.

Nope. Stopped the day after the seminar and haven't had one since. I'm not going to go there either because I know that one sip will have me off and running again.

I haven't had one in 4 months. Other than a sip in a slurpie (didn't realize it had soda in it) and it hurt so badly....Then I took a sip of champagne on new years not thinking and it also hurt. Trust me it is not worth it. I miss it sometimes, but I drink alot of Water and crystal light drinks now. Good Luck

Soda is just one of those things you should avoid, for a lot reasons.

But first....ask your Doctor. ALWAYS ask your Doctor about things like this.

The standard practice is considered to be NO carbonated drinks.

But Soda is bad for you for a lot of reasons.....the carbonation, the acidity, the lack of nutritional value, and god forbid you are drinking any SUGARED soda!

As much as you might crave it now, that will eventually go away IF you STAY away from it. A sip of soda now and then will simply reinforce the cravings, so you should not even think about "sampling".

This is a time in which you should be re-evaluating what you are eating, and making the change to more wholesome, healthful, and nutritional foods. And soda in any form is NONE of those.

arthukd: The maker of the band state in their literature that carbonation can cause band erosion. Why would you want to risk it? Also, beer is full of sugar.

I gave up soda a long time before the band, three or four years, in an effort to loose weight so I don't really miss it. Are you missing the bubbly? Or the sweetness? Because if it's sweetness, I recommend Naked juice. They make fruit juices from just the fruit and natural sugars and they're quite sweet.

Good luck!

As my Dr. says sodas and liquid calories are speed bumps and potholes to you and your weight loss journey. 1 every once in awhile may leave you a little uncomfortable but repeatedly going over potholes will do permanent damage and/or reduce the amount of excess weight loss. I have invested way too much time, money and effort into me to let sodas/beer destroy my tool.

I have had a diet 7 up by my bed at night for forever and still do. I let most of the bubbles fade away but sipping on it if I wake up in the middle of the night is very refreshing to me. I have been banded for 3 months and have never given it up.

I have also had a few glasses of champagne since being banded with no prolem......I just drink and eat very slow.

sodas, even diet are on my list to avoid. I gave them up last summer, and I honestly do not miss them. Also if you have caffeine, my NUT says because it speeds digestion up and makes you hungrier soon.

my surgeon allows his patients to drink diet soda 6 months after surgery. i've had no problems with the carbonation at all. the only thing weird is when my stomach is empty and i take a drink, my stomach makes a gurgling noise and i can actually feel the liquid passing thru the stomach and past the band. sounds and feels like my stomach is growling.

I am 5 months out, and I can drink one once in a while. I pour it over ice, to get out the bubbles, and I do not use a straw. It is fine. I was a diet coke-aholic before banding so this is huge for me to give it up. I don't crave it often but if I do, I have one.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
