Yesterday, while napping, I rolled onto my left side and woke up with this burning/pulling pain and then a weird sensation, like something slipped/squished/slid. Today, my port area hurts.

My question: has anyone ever actually felt their band slip? And if so, does that describe it?

Also: I have an appointment on March 1 to see my surgeon. If my band has slipped, do I need to get in sooner, or will it be okay to wait (I do not have a fill, if that's important to know).

I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow, for sure, but am curious to know if this is some sort of emergency that I need to be worried about, lol.

Thanks!

I am under the impression that if your band slips you are not able to keep anything down, even Water. You might want to go to the lap band complications forum and read some of the posts from people who have had a slippage.

I agree with the post above. Doesn't sound like a band slip but a port flip.....maybe! Your story sounds almost identical to what happened to me.

I was in bed and when I rolled over heard and felt some kind of a pop at my port area. It was so sore the next day I walked hunched over. Later I just pressed on the area a little & the pain was gone, like magic. 2 weeks later saw my doc & it was confirmed that my port did indeed flip. No biggie, just a simple procedure to sew it back in right.

I hope it's nothing! just sharing my mishap! Good Luck!!

Thanks, that makes me feel better! Heather, how did they determine that your port had flipped?

I told him the story & he tried to find the port to give me a fill but it was a no go. He ended up confirming it under fluoroscopy (real time x-ray). A few days later he did the minor surgery with just some local anesthesia. It was a little weird being awake while he was tugging, pulling & sewing but it didn't hurt. It was a tiny bit sore for a couple more days. It really wasn't a big deal!

He thought a stitch let loose & it was kind of sideways when it was really hurting. He said the true flip probably was when it stopped hurting.

I have been doing good although my loss has slowed down. but until I get back to my sweet spot that is expected. It is like starting all over again. Not a big deal just a small bump in the road. It will be ok. I really like how all the fuss is made about don't eat or drink before surgery. What crap that is. The day my Slip was discovered at 10am or so I was in surgery at 12pm that day I had Breakfast and drank and did the whole shabang. also drank the barrium junk at 10am. Funny they did the surgery no problems. Rock on or it was a bad deal and had to be done NOW. Good thing is I am here to tell about it and I really like my Doc. saw the problem and fixed that day. no putting it off. That is full service. Scotty d

I'm glad it is all working out for you! I've been dealing with this for almost a year because they couldn't find out what was wrong. I'm hoping this will put me back on track. I'm worried I'll slip again. I think the no eating thing is just a precaution - I've gone under and ate right up to the time with no problems. Best of luck to you and thanks for sharing!

I have had a port flip and a prolapse(Not a slip as first thought). According to my PA he has yet to see a slip with realize(the band I have) so I think slips are a little less common than what we think. The prolapse and from what I hear slip is something that could not wait because of discomfort. Hope its nothing serious.

Thank you! That makes me feel better! My slip as described by the doctor sounded bad - so I don't want to go through that again. I was upset about everything at first, but then I decided to be optimistic and glad I have a second chance to get this right!!

I don't think any complication is good, but you said that it's rare with the realize band and it made me feel better that this may not happen again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
