Confused about my plateau

Recommended Posts

I posted a while back about the plateau i'm having. I'm just so baffled about how i'm still stuck. I've been keeping up with my calorie intake lately, and i'm pretty much, on average, taking in about 1300 calories per day. Add that with exercise about 4 to 5 times a week (either 45 min. cardio or weights).

I guess i'm just confused on why i'm not going down... even slowly. Instead, i stay in the same 5 lb range.

I started at 470 Sept 2008, and now i'm at 315 to 320 lbs now. Yes, i've lost a lot, and am feeling way better than ever, but i shouldn't stop here... i want to do what i set out to do... and not be forced to stop short of my goals.

I know this happens a lot, but does anyone ever have this happen for more than 4 months? It's been since October 2009 that i haven't moved much. I have another fill coming up this week, so i'm hoping this will help... but then again, the last few fills have been worthless.

btw, portions isn't a problem, and i'm sticking to the diet... nothing bad at all.... in fact, mostly salads and solid Proteins... so i don't know.

Any help will do, thank you for your time.

Wow... You have done really well.... Maybe your calories are too low, especially if you consider your workouts.. And there's nothing wrong with eating good carbohydrates and dairy products and not just veggies and Protein. I think it's possible that your body is holding on to what it has for fuel... Just my opinion...

i've also wondered that as well, but every time i talk to my nurse about it.. they tell me to stick with what i've been doing. I see lots of people who get about 800 to 1000 calories and lose it.... i just can't figure out why i'd be sticking around the same area.

But, i think you might be right, or at least i'm hoping this will be the topic of discussion with my nurse. I'm wondering if different foods along with a fill will be my answer.

I'm currently 243 lbs and work out 3 times a week and my nutritionist told me I could eat as much as 1700 calories... Now I don't count calories but have some what of an idea and that's about what I have on workout days... And I'm losing!!! She told me our bodys are like a bon fire and if we don't keep adding to the fire it will burn out!

It does sound like you are doing everything right. That being said, I try changing mixing it up. Whenever I plateau, I eat a little more for a few days and then go back to my usual routine. Also, try changing up your workout. My body seems to get used to the same thing and then it doesn't give up the weight. It is incredibly frustrating. Four months is a really long time. I'd try something new.

Click on my ticker and you will see the plateau from hell. I had to update with the same weight in January since it had been over 80 days:cursing:. YOU have a right to complain, but I don't since I only recently began exercising. I agree that adding a few nutritious calories a day may help. For one week, I would add 3 daily Snacks. I would try either fruit or, if you want to low carb it, a couple slices of lean meat with a piece of cheese. Doing this for one week shouldn't make you gain, and it could jump-start your weight loss again. ME...I just need to get off my big butt and MOVE! Congratulations on your weight loss so far and your dedication to your new healthy living!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
