Let's hear from bandsters of 10 years or more.

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that a lot of people on this site are recently banded. Several are 2-5 years out and all the advice from these folks is great but I would like to hear the experiences of those banded for a decade. What is long term maintenance like? How many have had complications? Does your attitude toward food and over-eating ever really change? Do you lose the fear of regaining the weight? Do you develop a fear of losing the band?

I hope there are some long term bandsters out there to respond.

Great thread! I would also love to hear from some people that have had the band for 10 years! Great post!

The FDA didn't approve the band in the states until 2001. I know there are some other folks on this site from around the world, but you aren't going to find anyone w/ 10 years banding that was banded in the states until next year.

Ok, nine years out is fine! I just want to hear from people who have been living this lifestyle a long time.

Doubt that you will hear from them unless they have problems. People that have been banded a long time, without problems are going to be out getting on with their lives and are highly unlikely to still be visiting sites such as these.

Elcee, I wanted to say that but you did it so much better....I couldn't figure out how to say it without coming across as disrespectful. You did it well.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
