My surgery is tomorrow as well. I fell off the wagon with my liquid diet by having a meal (not a big meal) but fell off none the less. I am ashamed, but will admit that I realize now the importance of having you guys here and coming her for the support. It think a support system is crucial to our success.

So to that I say...I'm sorry guys for not coming to lean on you like I should and I will do better.

Good luck to everyone having their surgeries today, tomorrow, and Friday!

Hello egarduno -- I was banded a week ago today and I feel GREAT!!! AND I am so incredibly happy wiht my decision. My advice to you is WALK, WALK, WALK...you dont have to go fast just one foot in front of the other. It made me feel so much better and just 3 days after surgery I did a 2.5 mile walk for Water through our church. I wasn't the fastest but I felt GREAT!!!

Good luck to the upcoming bandsters and congrats to the recent banded. I am on my way to my postop appointment. I want them to tell me that I can have something to eat. I know they won't but I want to chew something.

Marsmom,

As for the chewing, maybe some gum would help?

As for me, I am a week (6 days and a wake up-since today is almost over) and wondering why my doc doesnt require a pre op diet of any kind) I am so anxious, and excited and love reading about all ya'll. I plan on walking walking walking. After my over night stay and 3.5 hour drive home the next day. :)

Thanks for having me buddies! Looking forward to hearing more from ya'll!

ok..will check in for surgery @ 10am. I'm very ready, not nervous (as of yet)... but here's the thing. I'm not hungry b/c my butt is so sore from all of the pottying from the Clear liquids..

Wasn't prepared for that.

Kelly- My doc doesn't require one either. I was going to do it anyway after reading everyone's post but instead have been slowly cutting back on my intake. I have been doing a liquid Breakfast the past few days just for the challenge of it. Maybe after my preop visit tomorrow I will have a diet for the rest of the time (my surgery is Tuesday)... anyhoo there are a few of us out there with no preop diets.

Good Luck to all of you band bunnies tomorrow and in the next few days. I am doing well since my 4/7 banding and eating solids...in fact, I had a salad tonight with small pieces of chicken chopped on it. Was heavenly. I have been taking boost shakes, yogurt with low fat granola, lots of Water and chewing, chewing, chewing. I will get my first fill on 5/5 and other than some tenderness under the skin and in the fat on my tummy where I imagine my port must be, am doing wonderfully. No issues at all. When I feel full, I stop - no more to eat. Best advice I can give as i went back to work 3 days after surgery is to sleep elevated for the first 48 hours. I never had any issues with gas settling in my chest or shoulders as I had before with both my hysterectomy and gall bladder surgery. I also would get up and walk whenever I got "stiff". This all helped me.

Prayers and good wishes for E'sMommy, MsLady and Egarduno during your procedures tomorrow. You will all do great!

Hugs,

Kim

My doctor didn't require a pre-op diet either. I had lost 11 pounds from the initial meeting until my pre-op appointment and he seemed satisfied that I had done that and didn't require anything other than Clear Liquids the day prior to surgery. That said, I cut carbs and did a protein-heavy diet for the week prior to surgery. The liquids and Protein reduce stress on your liver and evidently enable it to shrink, allowing more room to work during surgery. He says it minimizes incisions and healing time.

That said, I just got back from my post-op appointment and all is well. Down almost 15 pounds and thrilled! My first fill is June 3. Disappointed I have to wait so long!

Good luck all having surgery today! Thoughts and prayers are with you!

This is my first check in since surgery on Monday 4/19. Everything went well, and I was able to go home the same day. Other than a nasty bout with gas pain on 4/20, everything has gone smoother than I had expected.

Best wishes to those being banded today and in the next few days!

Post op was great. Get my first fill in a month. I am excited. More excited for mushy foods. Congrats to all who have been banded today.

Can't believe that it has been two weeks into the start of my new life.

I went for my post op yesterday. I have lost 20 pounds since pre op. Pretty excited that they moved me up to soft foods and more. I get my first fill on May 20th. So looking forward to that since I don't really feel much restriction yet at all.

Hopefully, with the first fill I will feel some restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
