April Bandster Bunnies

Recommended Posts

NewMeComing, I was banded the same day! I also spent the night and was really glad I did. I had mine at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio and the staff kept me really comfortable all night. How are you feeling one week out?

I am feeling good. Port site is tender and I am still getting used to the feeling of something foreign inside of me. Once my insides adjust and the swelling goes down, I am sure it is going to be nothing.

I am not hungry at all...but have less energy than I wish I had. My doctor won't let me drive until after my post-op, so I am working from home this week. The urge for a nap is HUGE!

How are you feeling?

Hello all, I hope you all had a good weekend. Rubie, I hope you are doing better and possibly get to go home soon.

I am doing much better, seemed to turn a corner over the weekend. pain is now minimal, it's much easier to eat and when I got on the scale this morning I have lost a total of 20 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. I am now wearing some of my smallest clothes and it feels great but I am wondering what I will do when these clothes don't fit. I have my post op check appointment today and I am a little concerned over my port incision that it is warm to the touch and draining a little bit so I expect to get some antibiotics.

I haven't found a protien power I can stand, have tried the Gladiator powder from smoothie King, Muscle Milk and nectar Sweets chocolate. They all have such a nasty aftertaste that I gag just thinking about them. Anyone have any recomendations or ideas for disguiseing the aftertaste? I know I haven't been getting enough protien because I am craving scallops, chicken and fish something terrible. Any help will be great!!

Hey all, So its been almost 1 weeks since I was banded and things are coming along great, pain is getting less and less even though today I had to go to walgreens and get me some liquid tylenol. I am still struggling with the eating thing, it's gonna sound weird but I am finding it hard to tell the difference between being hungry and full, my stomach is doing the same type of grumble for both, it's confusing and painful. Is anyone else having this issue? For kjd612 I am doing Boost drinks with high Protein and I love them.

Is anyone else finding it hard to regulate their body temp since being banded? I am freezing all the time! Walked around today with winter house shoes, three layers and still couldn't stay warm. I know it isn't massive weight loss like some of the posts I've read - I'm only down about 10 pounds since my surgery. What's going on? I hate to be cold!

ReRe- I am having the same issue as you now. My incisions are healing nicely and I am having less pain. However I am having issues when I eat. I cannot tell if my stomach is growling and having pains because I am hungry or full. When I do eat my required meal I am fine, but about 20 minutes later, the pains are back. Is this fullness or am I hungry?? My mom had Roen Y she said that when you feel it up in your throat it is fullness pains. I am still not sure because I can get food down and I have not thrown up yet.

As for the chills, I have had them also. Its because our bodies arent getting what they are used too. I have had them at least 4 times already. I took my temp to make sure it wasnt a fever. It wasnt. Again, I called my mom who had the roen y. She said that to this day she gets chills occasionally and she always seems to be colder than most. I guess these are things we will have to learn to live with.

We need to hear from someone with more experience to help with these questions!

I'm doing better each day for sure. Less pain in the incisions each day, too. If I push myself, I end up taking some tylenol. It is weird having this thing inside of you-especially the port. Pushing on my belly to feel the port is a little weird, but like you said, it will eventually be nothing. I have also been really tired at times-especially in the afternoon, so on days that I can, I take a quick nap which really helps, like 30minutes. :sleep:Could the energy thing be related to getting enough Protein? How is that going for you? I think I'm getting enough, but maybe should pay better attention?

I'm with you guys. We need an experienced bandster to tell us if this is normal. Sometimes the weird idiosyncrasies of being banded drive me bonkers!

kjd612, I really like ISOfemme Protein smoothie. I got it at Meijer and it has 27grams of protein in one scoop. You can either mix it in with your food (I put it on cream of wheat) or mix it with Water. The one I have is vanilla and it is pretty good.

Here's a link I found for it on the bottle: ISOFEMME Protein Smoothie for Women, Zero Added Sugar, Gluten-Free

kjd612 -- I was banded almost a week ago, and I also have a problem with Protein Drinks and powders until I tried the one directly from the doctors office. It is called Proti and they have a TON of different flavors and even some "meal options" when I am back to chewing and swalloing. I would highly reccommend searching for someone in your area that sells it. It is the ONLY powder that I do not gag on.

I found another Protein Shake that is proving to be a winner at costco. It is "Premier Nutrition Protein". They sell it by the case, 18 11 oz. ready-to-drink "juice boxes" in chocolate. I serving is 30 grams of Protein and on 160 calories.

I like the convenience of it being ready to drink. It'll make for a great snack at work on those days when I am really craving something and know I just need a protein fix.

I am new to this, very nervous and insecure, but here goes nothing...I am being banded on Thursday, April 22nd. I am excited but am more overwhelmed by nerves and anxiety...trying to calm those as best I can...Best of luck and congratulations to everyone..

Re: some of the Protein shakes..I have been on a 2 week mandatory liquid diet (with two cups of veggies allowed per day). the most satisfactory drinks I have found are Ensure and Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free (both pre made and packets to mix with milk). Now, they do not have the most protein (10-12 grams), but they taste good. Ensure though is 230 calories, so I only would have that once a day as a "treat." it is probably great for post band when you are not eating a ton and can afford to have the higher calories. Carnation is delicious and they have strawberry in the powder form. I live alone and work a lot, and I have found these two as the easiest and most tolerable. I cannot drink muscle milk..makes me feel sick. Also, another great one is Isopure (buy at GNC) that is like a liquid juice that has a ton of protien, no carbs and minimal if any calories..not delicious but very easy to drink..

Best of luck to everyone...Hopefully as time goes on I will get more comfortable, less nervous and more secure.

Mimdore - welcome! You will do great. I truly believe the toughest part is making the decision to have the surgery. Just make sure you have a great support network (we're all here and leaning on each other!), drink plenty of fluids and stay focused on the prize! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
