i hoping ill be able to eat stuff like shrimp, broccoli, citrus, cube steak, and in moderation, popcorn and angel hair Pasta. will i have to give up pasta entirely? what about potatoes? i dont eat potatoes often but i like them sometimes.

so what gives you trouble and do you have a fill or not?

I can eat shrimp if it is cooked correctly (NOT overcooked) and not reheated. I don't eat steak. Ribs give me problems and chicken sometimes. I can not eat meat if it is reheated unless it is in something like chili. I eat whole wheat thin pasta and I love it and eat it at least once a week. I eat potatoes sometimes and I love them. I just have to be careful. The looser you are able to keep you band and still lose weight, the more foods you will be able to eat. I can eat biscuits and pizza. I like my band like this because I didn't want to feel deprived. I wanted to be able to eat most of the foods that I want, just less of them and that is what I have.

I'm finally at restriction and agree that reheated or overcooked meats are dry and hurt. Hamburger and fish are my Proteins of choice lately. Soft tortilla's hurt too. I can eat crunchy just not soft. I can eat regular bread tho. I can eat Pasta rice and potato with no problem.

Shrimp and greenbeans are what have make me puke so far.

There are also other things that I do not care for when I have to chew them 30x, like scallops. The taste just isnt a good when they are in your mouth that long getting masticated.

For me--

chicken breast and soft, doughy breads are off the menu. Dark meat chicken is fine.

Hamburger must be eaten with great care.

I am fine with spagetti Pasta, but lasagna or ravioli is questionable. It tends to remain in a glob going down no matter how much I chew it.

popcorn is no problem for me. Shrimp is fine, I got stuck on fish for the first time last week.

Beef is fine if cut into small pieces and chewed well. Beef ribs can be a problem because the meat tends to come off the bone in big bites.

I haven't had a problem with potatoes.

As crzytchr said, it has a lot to do with how tight your band is.

Also, most of my stuck episodes these days are pilot error. Too big a bite or not chewed enough, and I am in trouble. Paying attention to what you are doing while you are eating will help you to be a successful bandster.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
