I like the Nector brand of Protein, it doesn't leave any after taste in your mouth.

The Inspire Protein powders from bariatriceating.com are very, very good.

After 4 months of buying everything, I finally found IDS MultiPro in the Belgian chocolate flavor. (I make mine with milk and 1/8 cup of oatmeal--the body then thinks it's a meal!)

Canned shakes taste tinny to me, so I opted for powder--be sure to go with whey Protein isolate which mixes instantly in Water / milk. The whey protein concentrate, although a little cheaper, has lactose and really requires a blender to mix it properly.

Everyone's different in their taste for shakes--but our bodies require sufficient Protein for healing and muscle growth--so this is a part of our new bariatric lifestyles.

Keep trying, I'm sure you'll find just the right one for you!

I know that I'm not the one who asked...but I would like to thank you all for the information just the same.

I am also looking to test drive a few to see what I can stand to drink.

My nutritionist recommended BSN Lean Dessert Protein (I don't know if it is isolate or not)...and someone else recommended unjury.

I found that you can get sample packs of most of them...I will be ordering and taste testing them all in the next week or so!

Thanks again.

A lot of people swear by unjury (www.unjury.com) and they did offer a sample packet box to buy--but again, the taste never enthused me.

We're all different--so good luck in your taste testing!!

Where are you getting samples? I was going to get a "sample" pack of 5, but it was going to be $20. It sounded like you maybe "test drove" a couple. Didn't know if a site let you try without $10 shipping!

Thus the "Sample Packet Box to BUY". Sorry, I don't know of anyone who gives samples away!

But the nicest thing about a sample packet is you don't invest a lot of money in something you end up hating - and either drinking while holding your nose or dumping down the drain.

I guess you have to date a lot of frogs before you find your prince (what a metaphor!)

I'm doing the sample packs you can buy. The prices I've found range from $10 to $20 depending on the company and number of packages.

I found some IDS MultiPro sample packages for 1.99 ea. To order 6 of them would be $11.94...shipping is $7.95 (they have a shipping rate based on the $$'s you spend).

I figured $50 bucks for a bunch of different packets to try was worth it to find one I like. Haven't tried any of them yet.

Kind of like make33 said, I don't want to get a ginormous tub only to find out I hate it and have to throw it away. I'm not the sort that can make myself drink something if it is gross...it'll make me sick.

Muscle milk Light, is the best I have found, even the premade drink is good.

Thank you all for your feedback. I also spoke to my physician and he said once I narrow it down to 2 kinds, he can also provide me samples and or buy them for me to try!! I thought that was really nice...are other physicians this nice? Thanks for all the info..I will research some more and figure a couple out!

I like the Premier brand pre-made chocolate ones from costco. Little bit better than the pre-made light muscle milk ones.

I went to GNC last night to look at the vraious brands they had. The gal working there made me two samples...both using Amplify Protein and mixed with some kind of soy yogurt stuff...whether it was soy milk based yogurt or what I don't remember.

Cookies and Cream was a bit sweet (would be good to satisfy a sweet craving).

Creamy chocolate...HOLY CRAP! It was GOOOOOD. I can see mixing various berries, bananas etc into it and making different flavors!

Neither left any kind of aftertaste. I even had my friend try them and she thought they were good. My 5yr old finished them off!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
