Toothache relief question

Recommended Posts

I can't get into the oral surgeon until 3/12 and have had major pain today.

I know we aren't supposed to use NSAIDS due to damaging our tummies. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can take to help the pain and inflammation?

what is the cause of your toothache? wisdom teeth?

A few NSAIDS will not cause you big trouble. It is those who take them on a regular basis that would be a problem. If it is an infection or abcess antibiotics will do the trick. Your dentist or oral surgeon can give you an Rx for something that will help until your appointment.

ASK FOR liquid FORM of RX.

My lower left wisdom tooth came through finally and broke off part of the molar in front of it. So I'm getting all 4 wisdom teeth out and then the broken one. I was just at the regular dentist yesterday and there wasn't any infection. My husband stopped and bought Children's Motrin. Hopefully it will kick in so I can get some sleep.

Thanks for answering so quickly!

Call your dentist in the morning first thing and get a liquid Rx. I don't think the cildren's motrin will help enough. I'm glad if it does, but I know there is nothing like the pain of a toothache. (I see patients with them daily) Ask for something that is not an NSAID. You can also try cold or heat on your jaw in the area.

I agree with humming bird, you will need something more than motrin to help with that. Call and see if they can give you a liquid lortab so you can sleep at night. I had that same problem with my wisdom teeth until I had them taken out. It was awful. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks guys! I refilled my Lortab prescription that I had left over from surgery. That has helped a lot. I called my dentist and changed oral surgeons so I can get in on Monday now for my consult! I'm so thankful for that because tooth pain has got to be the most frustrating thing ever.

I am happy that you are getting in sooner and that you were able to refill your Lortab prescription. I just had two wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago. The pain beforehand was horrible; one of the wisdom teeth had broken and there was infection. My dentist gave me antibiotics, which helped greatly, and vicadin for pain. Then after the surgery, I had more vicadin for the pain. After a couple of weeks, it began to feel normal and I avoided becoming addicted to pain meds!

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
