I'm having surgery March 10 and planning a trip out of the country the end of April. My family is having a fit that the trip is too close to my surgery. They're worried about something going wrong.

Is it unreasonable to take a long distance trip 5 weeks after surgery?

I'm five weeks out, and would have no qualms about traveling.

There is no reason to fear, just make sure that your band isn't pre-filled at the time of surgery. Other than that you will be able to eat anything and do anything. Of course, check with your doctor to be absolutely sure that he has no words of wisdom for you.

Have fun,

Mimi

as long as you're feeling fine, it should be fine. i wouldn't get your first fill until after you come home after the trip just in case you get filled too much.

i felt (almost) back to normal 10 days after surgery.

It's not unreasonable, but it also depends on where you are going. I don't think I would travel to any place where medical care isn't reasonably available, or to a place where the Water may be iffy. Other than that, it's probably better to go while your band is unfilled rather than starting the filling process and then going.

I'd like to tact one more question onto this thread.

Is this unreasonable? Have surgery on Wednesday attend a rock concert (sitting down in assigned seats) on Saturday?

I had my surgery on Wed, went shopping on Saturday, had to sit down half way through and take a break (got dizzy and light headed by hey, I was living off about 500 calories a day so I think that's not too unexpected). Could I have gone to a concert on Saturday? Probably, yes. Knowing what I know now, would I go to a concert on Saturday? No. I felt fine but I did get tired easily and I just don't think I would have enjoyed it much. Good luck!

I had surgery mid Feb. and did a Panama Canal 10-day cruise 6 weeks later, flying cross-country to pick up the ship. I had no troubles at all.

I did postpone my first fill for the trip as I did not want any troubles while I was out of the country.

Barring any complications, you should be fit to travel 5 weeks post-op. But do talk it over with your surgeon.

Surgery on Wed and a concert on Sat? If at a big venue with a chance of getting banged around? I'd say not. A long walk from the car to seats would have been too much for me. People dancing and jumping about and possibly running into you and hitting the port site...owie.

Based on my recovery, I could not have done it that soon, but others here could have. It's a roll of the dice that soon. There is a recent thread where someone had Shania Twain tickets. You might search "Twain" and see those responses for some ideas.

Best wishes!!!

Denise, I give up.. how does one do a search in here? I tried the box right below Search LapBandTalk.com. Is that it? If so, I'm not finding any threads.

I went to Bulgaria 6 weeks after surgery. It wasn't a big deal at all.

Hi Drasan, I went to the search that is next to the new posts link and put in "Shania" as I new the post was specifically about her concert. Here is the link:

The thread was titled "Can I do this"

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the link Cocoabean. It looks like most say "no way" and a few say "no problem."

I think I'll offer my ticket to a friend. My concert is no Shania Twain, it's a heavy metal concert, Alice in Chains. Even though it is a seated concert, heavy metal concerts tend to be a bit more intense. Although I would be no where near a mosh pit, I'm thinking crowd surfing, etc.

I'd rather be safe than sorry and protect my health for my trip to Europe.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful responses!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
