Fail ?!!?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!! I am new to the site but I have been banded since June 08'. I kinda lost track of the lap band and in my opinion have been a complete failure. I only lost a couple of pounds in ALMOST 2 YEARS!! BUT I have to get back on track. My husband bought me a treadmill for my bday and now I am going for it! My problem is my food choices and my chewing! ( Im sure most people have that problem as well). I know what to eat and how to eat it but it just does not seem to stick. I found the site by researching on the web appropriate food choices for lap band patients. I found some great info both here and elsewhere. I found a great website that has food group examples and number of servings. LAP-BAND: Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery Nutrition Guidelines.

Good luck to everyone!

Erin, Don't be so hard on yourself. I don't know about you but I have gained at least 10 lbs a year for the last 10 years of my life. If you have gone 2 years at the same weight maybe that isn't what you had in mind but at least you didn't gain! Good luck with the re-commitment.

Oh I am so glad I am not the only one who has felt like a failure...I had the band almost 2 years ago and I have only lost about 60lbs and 4 sizes...I'm trying to really work harder at it now because I've been so frustrated. Thank you for sharing the food ideas with us!

I understand your feelngs, but agree that you're not a failure. Two years without gaining is a victory, in my book.

It will be hard, but you seem very motivated to get back on track and achieve your goals. Good luck!

(And thanks for the link!)

If it's been a while since your last "fill" adjustment, you might go in and get a small one. That might just be the kick start you need ! Good luck.

I had the same thought - if you have maintained your weight for 2 years you have been successful! If you're unhappy with where you are you should set a small goal for yourself and reassess once you reach it. I was attracted to your post because I have been feeling like I've reached a plateau and also because, like you, I don't always make good food choices even though I know darn well what I am doing. This site is an amazing source of information and support. Good luck to you - work that treadmill!!!:wink2:

I also understand your frustration I have hardly lost any weight compared to the others on this site. Just until the last two weeks I was under the impression the band was just going to to the work for me wow! was I wrong.

I have started to really follow the rules.

- Do not drink with meals

-Eat low calorie and low fat foods that are healthy,

-Drink 64 oz Water and exercise daily.

Now I weigh and count every calorie and jounal my food daily. I thought those days were over. I did not want to put the time into it, but I realize now you have to. I have to honestly say that it's starting to work I have lost 5 lbs in the last ten days and it will work for you, just start to really be honest with yourself and you will start to realize why you are not loosing and then you can begin a fresh start. I am setting a 10 lbs goal I cannot think about the 100lbs I have to lose right now, that seems impossible to me. I can only focus on 10 lbs at a time. 10lbs Goal 10 times = 100lbs. I can do that!

Just joined this forum. I've been banded for 11 months and have only lost 42 pounds....I thought I was alone in this situation. If none of you are giving up, than why should I? Thanks to all of you for the support!!:w00t:

Hey everyone:-) I feel like Lisa73 on the issue of what the band was going to do for me. I thought I wouldn't have to try as hard with the band,,, it would cause me to feel full faster so with small portions, I'd loose weight. As you agree Lisa,,, we were wrong on that one, lol. I will also agree that to journal your food is a great idea. Sometimes we don't think about small things we are eating/drinking and when you write them down along with the proteins/carbs/fats,,, you will be surprised at what you are taking in. My biggest trouble is the meat/chicken. They don't go down as good as other things do,,, and to chew and chew get's SO OLD. But I found a Protein shot drink thingy at Walmart, ,, it's about 2 dollars for one, but it sure does help me out on those bad days of just NOT wanting meats,,, it's got 26 grams of Protein in it and that's awesome for me. That along with a carbmaster yogurt from Kroger with 13 g of protein,,, I start off the day with a good amount of my protein for the day.

Good luck to us all,,,, not gaining,,, loosing a little,,, both are very good things for us! My doc says bander's can loose 5 to 10 pounds a month and be doing great. But that there will be some months that nothing will happen and be happy with myself for just simply maintaining my weight:-) Sounds like a good plan to me!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
