Not Drinking Enough Post-Op

Recommended Posts

I was banded Feb. 8, and I am having trouble getting all my liquids in. I probably drink half of what I'm suppose to. I'm not hungry or anything, but I'm not thirsty either. I have one more week of full liquids then on to mushies. Is this a problem and did anyone else have trouble getting in the required liquids post-op?

I did. I still am but it is picking up everyday. I just don't think to have Water with me unless I am thirsty. I am also am having a hard time learning to sip instead of take a normal drink.

I was wondering the same thing. It's been two weeks since my surgery, and I have been sipping Water all day, but it never seems to add up to much water. I decided to leave water bottles in my car and at my desk at work to increase my Fluid intake.

Most def have same issues! Learning to sip and not drink like I use to is hard! And def not getting in 64 oz, I'm lucky if I get 32 in in a day! Glad to see I'm not the only one!

It is very hard--I try to do it on the routine, but life doesn't always cooperate. Since I am work at 7, I eat Breakfast there, so on the way and right up until 7:45--I try to have 16oz down--very hard with sipping, so I start soon as I get up in the morning. I eat breakfast around 8:15, then around 9, I start sipping again, try to get 8oz before lunch, then 8oz in the afternoon before a snack. I try to sip on the way home. After dinner, I try to get the other 32--sometimes I do, other times I at least try to get 48oz! Now all of that depends if I don't run late to work, remember my bottles of Water, do not get stuck in meeting and forget to bring my water, etc lol

I'm two months post op and you will eventually get to where you can drink regularly. Maybe not guzzle (although some are able to) but take normal amounts.

Sometimes, you just need to experiment and see how you can react. I was scared to do that at first, but I thought that I would never know unless I tried. And now, while I certainly can't down a 16 oz bottle of Water in just moments, I can drink one (sometimes two) in the morning or afternoon. However, this morning after working out, I mixed about 2/3 of a bottle with Miralax and Crystal Lite, and drank it in minutes. I was thirsty!

But keep trying to get back up to the recommended 64 ounces of liquid a day. You will get there.

I had surgery on Tuesday. There is no way I am going to be able to get all that liquid down. I had one shake yesterday and it literally took all day. I felt like I had eaten way too much. I have had one shake today and a large glass of tea.

I'm two weeks banded and I definaetly have not been able to get in all of my liquids. I dont think I've gone past 32oz. yet. Sipping is very hard because I'm so used to taking big gulps. Glad to know that I'm not alone in this.

I was banded on Tuesday the 16th as well, but I have had no problems drinking normal amounts so that concerns me a bit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
