Protein Drinks that will not make me sick

Recommended Posts

I am trying shakes pre op and had the Pure Protein (worldwide protein) and had very bad "runs" all day... I wonder if anyone had this experience and if they know what is going on... Maybe it is the Lactose? Can anyone reccomend protein that is good that will not cause this side effect?

I couldnt handle the Worldwide shakes either and didnt like them. The only Protein shake I like is the 50 Grand Slams from GNC in the red can.

They have a powder too, but i dont care for it.

Inspire Protein powder from bariatriceating.com is really good. I esp. like the Dutch chocolate, PB Cookie, PURE unflavored (good in Soups and other foods), and Pom Razz Sangria (mixed with a little Crystal Light).

Even my kids love the Dutch chocolate with warm almond milk.

My absolute favorite are the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control. 110 calories, 17 grams Protein. They are premixed, single serving shakes and they saved my life during the pre-op diet. I did powder mixes as much as I could stand (since it is economically better than the individually packaged drinks), but these taste the best to me. Also, Atkins brand shakes are good too. I've found both at walgreens, cvs, target.

I have one called DESSERT that isn;t too bad, but my favorite is smoothie King Gladiator. not the chocolate one though. it is a Meal Replacement shake with 45 grams of protein.

I thought taking in Protein Shakes I was definately going to have the runs. My first 5 shakes proved my worst fear, but then I ordered some samples of Bariatric Advantage and wah-lah no more sick belly. I like the banana and strawberry. I think it just takes trying many different ones and see what works for you! Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
