slipped... me, not the band

Recommended Posts

so here I am, 1.5 years post surgery and for the past 6 months, I have plateaued (sp?) and even worse, gained a little. Nothing major, I am still lighter than i was when i was 16 years old (and I am on the last stretch to 40 now) but I am starting to find ways to eat around the band. I am as filled as I need to me (already have some restriction with certain foods) so I am not going to rely on filling more. Anyway... I am looking for some support I guess. The first thing I am doing is getting back on this board. Second, journaling everything that goes in my mouth (good, bad, etc.) and third.... will start (slowly) to get into the gym.

Anyone else go through this? Any advice? Thanks!

It sounds like you are on the right track. Do you have a wife or close friend that is willing to kick you in the ass if you start to veer off of it? Tough love is what it usually takes to keep me honest.

If you have $200 laying around, you may want to check out the Bodybugg or GoWear Fit. They are devices you wear on your upper arm that calculate how many calories you are burning. It makes it much easier to calculate how many calories to eat and still lose weight or how much more you need to exercise.

The Bodybugg is working for me. Not banded yet and close to 100 down.

so... I got off my ass and stopped the pitty party. I cut out the carbs and junk, backed off on the snacking and starting tracking food intake again. I did not cut out the drinking (I like it, so I am making other adjustments) and I am down 6lbs!

I am back down to 224 and when I hit 221 my BMI jumps down to "overweight" category from "obese" category (whatever.... that means, the BMI calulator is pretty arbritrary).

So my goal was to get from 230 to 225 and stay there (set point) then my newest goal is to get to 220 and make that my new set point.

and I did this without getting another fill. I want to rely on my willpower and structure and not just fall back on tightening the band everytime I go up a pound (or 5)

hey Jack... I look at it differently.... you say 35# from your goal... I look at it as I am not 150lbs above my goal after 1.5 years

I know it sounds strange to look at it that way, but I am at 224 today, I was at 328 3 years ago... so, I guess its all in how we look at things.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
