Psch Eval....Questions!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I have a dilemma and wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue. I am working with Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina and they referred me to one specific psychiatrist for my eval. Unfortunately he is NOT in network and I have to pay 650 up front!!!!! Do I have to go to that specific doctor or go to another one that is covered? That same question goes to the dietician as well. I just wanted to know if they want me to go there because they cut a deal with him or if that was my ONLY option. Any insight would be helpful!

Thanks!

I am in Illinois, so I cannot answer the question about your specific facility. However, I would think that if you called & discussed this issue with them they would be willing to help you locate someone else. My surgeon also recommended someone for my psych consult and I did not think to check ahead of time....sure enough he was out of network and my insurance company did not cover the visit.

I think that the facilities prefer to make the recommendation as the psychiatrist is familiar with pre-WLS consultations and knows what information the surgeon (and the insurance company) need.

I'm sorry I could not be more helpful. Good luck!

I priced out 6 different psychiatrists and went with one that was in network for my insurance. I decided to go with the referred nutritionist though because she works hand in hand with surgeon and his requirements.

Talk to your doctors office and they will understand and most likely give you other names.

Good luck!

The center I went through had a list of psych. to choose from, I had to self pay because no one on the list was in my plan; however, my psych eval only cost $150.00. Maybe you should call the surgeon to ask them for other options?

Do check with your surgeon. Mine gave me a list of recommendations, but was totally fine with me choosing another, who was both in-plan and closer to home.

If you go with someone else, be sure they contact the surgeon and/or your insurer to make sure that they gather the necessary information.

Who is your surgeron? I'm working with Dr. Scott Bovard. I had my psych eval with Carolina Partners, which was in my network. I had my diet eval with Rex Hospital's Wellness Center. It did cost me $55 for 30 minutes. The lady said that it would be free for those with BCBS. Anyway, I would ask your doctor about your psych eval. I'm sure they can do something...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
