Really it sounds like you have just gotten sick and it couldn't be at a better time huh? Hopefully you have already taken time off work to recover. I don't believe that the dripping is gonna make anything slip. You may feel better if you tried some liquid tylenol for the fever. I didn't drink alot of Protein Drinks. I did mostly chicken broth. You may want to try that heated up. Good if your sick and could help relax the band. I didn't have a BM til I got back on solids so your not alone there. Are you allowed sugar free cocoa, apple cider or warm tea? All of these might feel good in your tummy and around the band. Just trying to think of anything that might help. Hope you feel better soon.

You will feel better.

Lots of people are not allowed Protein drinks until a week out......clear fluids is what is important right now.

I ran a little bit of a fever for a day and a half and then nothing.......I also started my period (light) right after surgery.

I think alot of this will pass and I know for a fact each day gets a little better than the last. Hang in there and rest when able......walking helps with the gas so your on the right track!

Good luck and take care.

Please try to relax. You are SO freshly banded that the things you describe are to be expected--even the slight temperature elevation.

Re: pooping. Your intake is next to nil; while it's not unusual to experience frequent watery stools at first, it's also not uncommon for there to be little to NOTHING coming out via that route.

Gas is a given; we all experience it postop, and it can be terribly painful. If your doctor okays it, Gas-X really helps. Walking is even more helpful---get up and walk as much as you possibly can.

Focus on hydration. That is really the most important thing. Yes, Protein is important--but I promise you, you'll feel better and be able to tolerate things much better, before it becomes a health issue.

There are FAR better Protein sources (and ones that taste way better) than the CIB. Since my banding, I can't tolerate milk at all. Yogurt and cheese? Fine. But milk? Forget about it.

I bet you can find a good alternative. I like Inspire protein powders from bariatriceating.com.

I was banded the day before you, and I'm experiencing the EXACT same toleration problems, although I haven't had a temp. I had to do a liquid diet 2 weeks pre-op, and I wasn't able to tolerate Protein shakes then either.

As for the pooper issue - it's been 13 days now for me since I've had....an experience. I haven't talked to the doc yet - so I'm glad to know this is normal.

My doc advised that I could start having very thinned out creamy Soups on the 4th day post op, so you may ask yours if you could start doing something similar since you can't get any Protein down. V8 makes a few Soups - they're in cartons, and most of them are already strained pretty well. Of course you have to strain them AGAIN and add some chicken broth or milk to thin them, but they are HEAVEN after only having Water for 3 days. The Garden Vegetable variety has 5g of protein per serving - which isn't great, but it's better than the 1 or 2 grams in other soups. Just a thought. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
