Feeling lost with out food

Recommended Posts

I'm in the same boat as you, I was banded the same day, and I'm feeling the same way. I find myself thinking about what I will be able to eat, I'm Hungry! And it is really hard when everyone else around you are eating, regular food and all you can eat is soup! But everything I have learned on here is that it gets easier...

When do u get your first fill? Also can we be hungry when we haven't had a fill? Do you know? Mr dr said I can start eating soft things like eggs and cottage cheese . What about you?

I hope your doing well

Sharon

Wow, MNWMN,you go sell that truck of yours and then maybe you'll give me your autograph along with some short words of prayer and gratitude, and I'll be honored to stick that paper in a crack in the Western Wall of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. (I'm from Israel) This is a common tradition followed by religious and non-religious people alike, and it doesn't matter if you are Jewish or not. I am probably the farthest thing from a wingnut you can imagine, but I am moved by the step you are planning to take, and want to honor it. Best of Luck!

Yea - I never realized how much I thought about food - I started to realize it when I was scared to get banded because I could never eat a sandwich again! I KNEW I needed a change of mind then! Think about this, I am a banquet captain, I staff MEAL events at a beautiful hotel - that is my life; food food food!

I would be so honored for you to put my prayer requests in the Wall. I have wanted to go to Israel, hopefully someday. I am getting closer to getting lap band. My husband has to get his surgery over first, hip replacement for him. I have been researching drs that do fills and have found one. Your story is quite an inspiration, I am amazed by your results. Thanks for all your support and I will keep you posted as to how I am coming along on my Quest for the lap band. Sherry

I never realized that food was such a big part of my life, until I started this journey. Growing up in a house where the kitchen is where everyone always congregated. Its tough to think that so much of my life was spent in search of food, or a fullness that was never achieved.

I am finding a peace and strength now that I did not realize I possessed. Every day is a struggle, but I have been told by more than one banded person, and a few others that after a while you will lose interest in food, as it gains less of a focus in your life, and you find other things to enjoy. I hope so, but the pre-op diet is my first step. Much luck to you all, and the support on this site is a god send.

Your painful, honest insights will pay you back in gold, Birney, and your lifetime of bitter experience with food will be your best teacher and guide, because it will give you the wisdom and courage to perservere in post-band life. The band will be there helping you along - reducing your hunger, helping you make better food choices and change the habits you developed around eating. And we will be there for you also.

Food is an indispensable necessity and a legitimate source of pleasure, but you are right: for many of us, it became a false God - offering us fullness and comfort but monopolizing and ruining our lives. This knowledge, that can only be accrued with years of suffering, will make it easier for you to step away from what you have been and help you move on into a life that will be better than you have dreamed it could be. Sounds a little dramatic, but I mean every word, because that is how it has been for me.

I read your profile: You do sound ready to do this, and you can take your life back.

I can relate to your statement. One of my deciding factors to have the Lap Band was if I could give up "pigging" out. I did not want to live feeling fat the rest of my life. My hope is feeling good and healthy will feel better than pigging out. You only feel worse as you get older. It is harder to carry the weight around. Hang in there and keep motivated and hoping that you will find something that fills that void.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
