Question for anyone who wants to answer. I have fallen off the wagon so to speak this last week and I was thinking about doing the 5 day pouch test but was unsure since I go in for my second fill this coming Wednesday the 18th. What do you all think? Thanks in advance for the answers.

What is the 5 day pouch test? I've seen references to it before, but I have no clue. What is the purpose?

The only thing I use to determine whether or not I need a fill is whether or not I am able to eat to excess within a 20-30 minute meal.

If you can still do that, then I'd go for the fill but the 5 day pouch test couldn't hurt to get you back on track making good choices.

Its sort of like starting at the beginning of the process, with a couple days of liquids, them to mushies and then back to your regular eating habits. according to what i have read it gets you back on track.

I dont know, it may have an official name and all but all that pouch test is is another silly fad diet.

So yes, you peel away a couple of pounds of Water weight in a few short days and like anyone who loses weight that way, you put it right back on again the minute you eat properly. Its not healthy for you, its lacking in balance, its just basically silly.

Just eat right, all of the time with moderate treats and breaks from your routine and get fills when the amount that satisfies you no longer causes you to lose steadily (even if fairly slow). There's no need to "test" your pouch.

When you stop losing evaluate honestly what you are doing. Have you started sneaking in more foods or more specifically, more bad foods? Could you ramp up your exercise? You know the honest answers to those sorts of questions. If you're doing the right thing most of the time and have stopped losing then its fill time.

To be fair, I don't think anyone claims that the pouch test is a diet. A diet doesn't last 5 days and then is done.

The 5 day pouch test is more of a cleansing program in that you are eliminating the junk from your diet and reducing the amount of food you're eating. I've gone on cleansing programs and know that after a few days I feel better which motivates me to be more concientious and thoughtful about what I'm eating.

I tend to agree with Jachut--especially as there are people online trying to sell books and things associated with this diet. Plus the name makes newbies think it is some official lapband procedure to check your pouch. It's a high Protein diet. That said if someone wants to try a different approach--why not. I am saving exercise for my plateau period rather than a new eating regimen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
