I would love to have the Lap Band but don't know for sure if I would qualify, medically that is. My BMI is right at 40 but as far as health wise I don't have any issues. My sugar is good. Though - I've been told I snore like a "freight train". Is this the first place I should start? Seeing if I have sleep apnea? Should I go to a Band Seminar first? I’ve talked with my family Dr and he’s all for having the Band done. I would have to get approval from my insurance. Don’t I have to have medical issues also to get approved? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.:scared2:

Does your insurance require comorbidities for a BMI of 40 or above? 40 was the cut-off for mine; the weight alone was sufficient to proceed.

Start at the beginning. Find a good doctor. His or her staff will know exactly what to do to get you approved. You can let them worry about :scared2:

Find out what your insurance covers. I was 39 and I was covered. Like Betsy said, find a good doctor

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
