Having some anxiety--after two people I know have had problems...

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if I should have gotten the band. I know three people irl that have the band and two have had slippage and the band rubbed a hole in their stomach. One is my neighbor and she had emergency surgery, but is fine now although they had to remove her band.

The other is a lady I know only slighty, so I do not know what her circumstances were or who her dr is, but she is in the hospital right now in a coma. The newspaper said that the band rubbed a hole in her stomach and she has sepsis and all of her organs shut down.

I am nervous and really wish I had not done this. I did a lot of research beforehand. I chose one of the best doctors I could find and knew the risks, but also know that what has happened is rare. But, if it is so rare, why do two of three people I know have problems??

There are a lot of people with positive experience so don't let yourself get stressed out. Just think positive and follow all the rules.

Kristi99 I did not even look at the name when I responded. You will be fine. Did you go to a support meeting yet? I went for fill on Thursday and picked up a schedule. Support is really important to keep you feeling normal. Please don't let yourself get stressed you are going to do fine just give it some time. I pretty much think I am a slow loser but slow is better than nothing and over time it all adds up. hang in there!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
