Its a very common problem - bread is on the list of problem foods and a lot of bandsters can't eat it at all. Try wholemeal rather than white bread and also try it toasted as that usually makes it easier to eat. The problem with fresh bread is that it can form a doughy ball that gets stuck at the stoma.

I too can't handle bread at times so i usually just stay away from it...I did buy a bag of mini bread all sliced up they were garlic and cheddar flavored...The mini bread is kinda like croutons but not lol They are yummy and mini so they are easy for portion control..I bought a bag of them by the deli Soup at Safeway or you may have a Tom Thumb (same store but different name for different areas)...I was also told that bread with more grains and nuts are a lil easier to get down...if you chew chew chew you may be alright..:scared2:

I am using Ezekial bread which contains only sprouted grain and no flour to gum up on you. I toast it and then spread a spoonful of olive oil on it instead of butter. This helps me get some whole grain and some good fat because my skin was drying out so badly 6 weeks after surgery. I also use Smuckers natural Peanut Butter which only has 1 gm sugar. Tasty!

You can find Ezekial bread at the health food store or some grocery stores have it in the freezer. Our Jewel carries it in the freezer section of their organic foods. Trader Joes has it too. Since it has no preservatives, you should keep it in the freezer. I put a knife in between the frozen slices to get one off. Because sprouted grain has more Protein than plain flour, each slice of Ezekial bread has 4 gm Protein.< /p>

I can't tolerate bread in any form whatsoever so I just stay away from it - to be honest I think it's been a benefit to my weight loss. I can eat Cereal though.

Oh - I should clarify. I probably could eat it but it would take me over 30 minutes to get through one slice...bread just doesn't mean that much to me :scared2:

I've had a problem with bread since surgery but if I slice my homemade bread *very* thin and toast it, and take small bites and chew well, I can eat it. I consider it a treat because most of the time it's just a PITA to deal with.

Thanks for all the info on possible breads to try.. Being in Arkansas I am VERY limited on specialty stroes .. If Wal-Mart

don't have it - you don't need it is the state motto. I have been here 12 years and still cannot adjust to that attitude.

When we go visit friend in other states we take a cooler and shop for things we cannot get here.

As for eating bread -- all I can say is NO NO NO

(I sound like Amy Winehouse don't I ...lol)

Maybe this will help It does for me when I am having problems staying on point. If your eating bread you just don't gedt it yet. That is a shame as this surgery costs a ton.

I'm 6 weeks out I cannot due bread--- period im in pain ....if i eat it .... I think bread is a useless carb not enough Fiber anyways and it's too bulky... I think there a dozen other things I can eat besides bread. spinach wraps low sodium tortill's pita- and whole wheat or if you reall need that bread niche( totally understandable) buy pillsbury biskets or cresan rolles there softer and Lighter on your pouch you can find whole wheat too..... I would suggest focus on you protien, dairy, fruit and vegtables

You guys are good. Shoot, I am 8 1/2 months out. I don't fool with bread. I've hit goal and so my nutritionist asked to start adding some things back. This week I had one slice of wheat bread and it sent me through the roof. NO THANKS. (giggle)

There is nothing that will cure your bread addiction faster than the lapband! LOL

Its really a wonderful thing, though, because bread is pretty much empty calories. I used to be able to gobble up two pieces of garlic bread just while clearing the table and putting the food away. Last night, I broke off one tiny corner of a piece of garlic bread (only 1x1 inch square) and nibbled on it ever so slowly just to get a taste. I'm so happy for this. I can get a little taste, but there is no temptation to shove a whole piece in my mouth anymore... not since my run-in with a roll I ate two quickly about a month ago.

If you choose the right type of bread it is not empty calories.Wholegrains are good for you and they do help to keep you regular among other things. This in itself can be quite a problem for a lot of bandsters, particularly ones that focus on Protein and forget some of the other food groups.

I agree though that things such as garlic bread are just empty calories.

And ANYTHING that you eat too quickly once you are banded will cause you problems - not just bread!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
