Did I stretch my pouch?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am about 3 weeks post op. It will be 4 weeks tmrw :scared2: but I think I stretched my pouch. I can eat way too much. I will stay full for a while but I'm still scared. For example, today I had a skinless chicken breast that was grilled. So it was nice and soft. But I felt overwhelmingly full afterward. Did I eat too fast? Can I go on liquids for a day or so to shrink it?

You are unlikely to have stretched your pouch as without fills the food still passes almost straight through.

I am surprised though that you are eating chicken breasts already. They are not normally part of the post op diet until about week 6 or 8. Are they on your surgeons diet for this stage? chicken can cause problems so be careful.

You most likely did not stretch your pouch...a few weeks after surgery before you get fills is kinda frustrating at times...I too had a lil restriction but for the most part could eat as much as i wanted..I even gained 6lbs between my 1 week checkup and my 6 week checkup which i then got a fill and lost the weight again..lol but i wouldn't worry i think you are probably just going through that awkward stage and after you get a few fills things will begin to get better..Keep your head looking up^^^

It doesn't surprise me that dense chicken filled you up--it's supposed to! Still, even though your stomach capacity is smaller, it empties rapidly--which is why you feel so hungry.

Elcee, I think there are as many preop and postop diets as there are bariatric surgeons. Mine has his patients return to solid food--pureed Protein, only---at Day Three postop. I'm 4 weeks out, and solid Protein makes up 100% of my diet.

It is really hard to stretch your pouch, so I doubt you did that. But you are risking slippage of the band by eating chicken and other regular foods this early in the game. You need to give yourself plenty of time to heal before you start eating real food, or else that band could slip right out of place, especially if something you ate were to cause vomiting.

My surgeon said I could start gradually adding solid food. I'm currently on my soft food stage and start solid foods tomorrow, Saturday. But I think I'll continue with the soft foods for a few more days so I can keep it safe. I'm always paranoid lately and I can't wait for my fill.

And for the chicken... I just had it once. And now I know to stay away from it for a week or so. I have an appointment with my surgeon next weekend and can't wait.

meats are on my post op diet too and i'm 3 weeks out. On my list are chicken breast, turkey breast, pork chop, pork loin, pork roast, ground beef...etc

I was told by the dietitian they are fine but should be chewed very well. I've had no trouble eating them.

And...i've had the same concerns about stretch my stomach...newbie fears here too.

*cheers for the 3 weeks out!

Nope...you're normal. Until you get fills you won't have any real restriction and your pouch isn't really a pouch yet.

Every doctor is different. Some put their patients back on solid foods within days. Mine had me on each phase of the diet for 2-3 days and back on solid foods by the end of the 2nd week. I doubt they would give such advice if there was a risk of band slippage.

Perhaps the doctors that fear band slippage are those who do not fold part of the stomach over the band as mine did. I asked him if I had to worry about band slippage and he said that unless I was persistently 'vomiting' (as you do when you have a stomach flu), there's no risk of slippage.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
