trying to conceive with pcos

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am due to be banded march 22, 2010. I am nervous, but also very excited. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 3 years now. I have pcos and have not been able to conceive. I was just wondering if anyone has pcos, and if they have gotten pregnant after banding, how long it took, and how much weight they had to lose before they got pregnant. Currently I weigh 310 lbs and I am 5'8

Hi! I just wanted to give you a little encouragement. Losing weight is the best way to boost fertility. I'm assuming you have done some research on PCOS so you must know how much losing weight can help reduce symptoms. Now here is a quick version of my little story: At 19 I got pregnant with my daughter. At 25 I had a miscarriage. At 27 I was diagnosed with PCOS at my highest weight of about 270. At 29 second miscarriage after 6+ months of trying. Age 30 got my lapband. Lost about 65lbs. About one year post op we stopped using birth control. Now here is the part I've been dying to share with someone!!!!! I took a home pregnancy test on Wednesday and it was positive . Now, I will not relax until I make it past 12 weeks, but I am very hopeful! I mean what the heck whatever happens, happens some things are just out of my control. I lost (most of) my weight, I did my part. I just feel so good right now. I decided to wait until Sunday (Valentine's day) to tell my husband. Yes, I just told you before I told my husband! I cant believe I've waited 3 days already hehehe I"m terrible at keeping secrets. So get your band, lose your weight, and have your babies!

I have PCOS and after a 110lbs lost I started in on seeing an RE as my age was flying by me. Anyway I did have help with clomid and then injections, with one M/C under my belt I am now in my 5th week of pregnancy still early I know but we saw 2 sacs in there, you may need help with having PCOS but it's possible. I am weighing in at 287 right now and prolly gaining becasue I am so humngry I am resorting to some slider foods so I need to get an unfill I think so I don't dlip my band or something...GOOD LUCK to you. Are you a member on Soul Cysters?

Hi, I just wanted to tell you my success story and wish you luck, I know when I was ttc it helped to hear from others wit similar expierences. I was diagnosed with pcos at 18 years old. I married my husband at 24 years old, started ttc at 26 years old after many years of not trying to prevent it. I lost about 40lbs back then and did get pregnant one year after beginning to try using clomid. Unfortuneately I miscarried. Here's the good part, I was able to keep the weight off for another year while continuing to ttc, decided to see a fertility specialist in nov of 07, we had decided to do injectables and iui. So she started to scan my ovaries in prep for the stimulation with the meds, I had a cyst, she didn't think we could do the stim, scanned every other day until omg your cyst is an egg, go home and hve sex, so 12 days later after NOT using the drugs, I have a positive pregnancy test. My cyst turned into my beautiful little boy. So hang in there, it does happen, my little guy will be five this year.

Positive thoughts your way!

Crystal

Hi my name is Sara and I am 32 almost 33. I have been ttc for almost 4 years. We did a round of clomid before my surgery but then decided to go on the pill and regulate my cycle and get some weight off. My one year bandiversary was on 2/6/10 and I have lost a little over 100 pounds. Before surgery I was 348 and now I am about 240. My doctor (reproductive endocrinologist) just gave us the ok to start trying I came off the pill in january and have been regular and ovulating every month, So in April we are doing the clomid with an hcg injection and an iui. I am so hopeful that this will be the month. Baby dust to everyone and hang in there it's worth it and it does happen!!!!

Hello! I am excited that I get to share my quick story with you! I am 37. Was banded 05/08/09. I weighed 324 then, and I have lost 70 lbs. At around the 7 month mark my husband and I decided to stop being so "careful". Although I cannot say that we were actively TTC because I still didn't have a regular cycle and couldn't plan for it. Two months after surgery I had my period for the first time ever naturally!! Then it came anther 7 weeks, then 6, etc. I was ovulating fairly regularly every five weeks. (I too, have PCOS and honestly thought it would take YEARS and medical intervention to conceive) Honestly, 6 weeks later we conceived. We are now 8 weeks pregnant. It DOES happen!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've made a good decision with the band. Congratulations. xoxo

Hang in there! I too have PCOS and the reason I had the surgery was to lose enough weight to get prego. I have lost 60 lbs since last June and I am now 6 weeks prego. I am way excited. My DH and I went to a reproductive endocronologist who determined I was anovulator so with the help of provera and then followed with two treatments of clomid and FHS injectable I am 6 weeks preg. I am still in shock and can't believe it. Find out what your surgeons thoughts are on pregnancy. Mine told me to wait two years but also said that life happens (I didn't even wait a year after being banded). I am unclear if I should get unfilled and what I should be eating.

Good luck to you and it will happend when the time is right, keep your head up!

I dont have PCOS, but my hubby and I were trying to conceive baby #2 but nothing happened for 6 months, so I thought it had something to do with the weight that I havent lost since my first baby was born (I gained at least 50lbs). I decided to go for it and got the band. I was losing weight, and happy about it. We stopped TTC, but we didnt prevent. I found out I was pregnant almost 4 weeks ago, so I'm almost 8 weeks along, but when I had found out, I was down 28lbs in the 2 months since surgery. (231 SW, 203 PregW, 197 CW). So I truly believe that ANY weightloss will be beneficial to TTC efforts.

My doctor recommended at least 6 months of weightloss before TTC, and I was happy with that, but I didnt want to prevent because we'd been trying so hard previously, it didnt make sense to block it. And now I have my baby cooking away, and because of the band, I'm eating so much healthier too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
