1st fill question

Recommended Posts

My 1st fill that was cancelled yesterday due to the snow storm was rescheduled for the 17th. My doctor is about 1 1/2 hours away. Will I be okay driving myself home afterwards?? My husband was going to take me yesterday but can not get the 17th off. I have no idea what to expect as this is my first fill. Any input is appreciated. Leslie

Had my 1st fill on Monday on my lunch hour and went right back to work. You can drive yourself home with no problem. It is just like getting a injection or getting a blood test. Tiny needle and Fluid injected into the port.

Oh yeah, you can drive. My fills are done with a local shot for pain but it hurts about as much as a regular shot. So if you can get a flu shot and then drive home you can have a fill and drive home. Don't be scared, there is a lady that I play cards with that told me how bad the fills were so when I went for my first one I was so scared. Of course it was no big deal with the local anesthetic. In and out in 10 minutes.

the only thing you should have to worry about is what you are eating the rest of that day. I have had 3 fills so far and have driven myself straight from the doctor's office to the gym and worked out for an hour. I guess everyone is different and someone may tell you that they were not able to drive themselves but I don't think you should have any problems.

I always drive myself... It very simple... Fill days are just like any other day for me except I get to drink broth all day afterwards... I work, shop, excersise, drive.... I even eat a good Breakfast before I go... There's no problems or issues for me... But everyone is different... So you do what you feel is comfortable for you....

I was very nervous and scared the first time... Almost to the point of a panic attack and almost to the point of cancelling and rescheduling... But it turned out to be easy peasy....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
