Interest in aussie only forum?

Recommended Posts

Hey to all you aussie banders out there, I am new to this forum and only recently stumbled across it via a google. I have had my band since july 09, and in that time have had alot of questions, ones that I thought could be better answered by fellow banders rather than my surgeon. And now I finally found this! done a bit of reading and there is ALLOT of threads that I, as well as many of you i'm sure can relate to.

This site itself though isn't really aimed at us aussie's, this became abundantly clear when I registered and was unable to select my state

So the question i'm putting to you all is, what kind of interest is there in an aussie only forum/site? Web design is one of my hobbys professions and was just wondering if there was enough interest I would start and maintain such a site. Was thinking a forum like this but with public or private blogs and perhaps with built in weight loss tickers? or even ml in band? These are all just thoughts for now and would only go ahead if enough people where interested.

thanks for reading

-Nathan

Well, I've been here since before my surgery so I would be sad to leave...

But yeah, this place is now directly geared to Americans. :crying: It kind of makes me sad. I've been here so long but with adds lagging me all the time, and being told I can have a lapband free (Gee, thanks, but I already got one of those free lapbands in AUSTRALIA) all the time.... :scared2:

i think it would be a great source! i havent been banded yet but i've been on this site since August and I have found it a great help

However an aussie based site would be alot more helpful, especially in terms of information regarding aussie surgeons and medicare/insurance information

Hehe, you'll be banded! :scared2:

I suppose this site has become very commercial now... anything to do with American healthcare is very much money directed, isn't it? I still can't comprehend the lack of public healthcare over there. It always seemed fair enough that if I was sick, I'd have help ...which I have needed many times... so why shouldn't I pay an extra tax for others who are sick?

Thanks for the feedback guys, yeah i agree about the overwhelming ads Americanization on this site. The forum I a proposing will have all this info based on what will hopefully become a community wiki. Covering topics like health insurance, waiting lists ,etc. All aussie based. I think it's settled, I'm going to start work on it this weekend. When it's up I'll start a new thread, and we can spread the word to your fellow banders and your surgeons hopefully will get on board and add to the wiki and the database of surgeons throughout aus.

Keep posting your questions / comments

-Nathan

The trouble with Aussie only forums is lack of people. They're just never as interesting, becuase the sheer number of Americans means something is always happening on this site.

But I could do without the food culture lag, I just get soooo over the Protein shakes/protein discussion and the focus on processed foods - we just dont shop, cook or eat the same way in Australia and I'd like to discuss more of that sort of thing with others of like mind.

Thats why I come to Both places ....but if all the aussies here start to post over on www.Bandingtogether.com.au it would get more interesting for sure..

Usually there is not much happening in this Australian section so I post in my age group sixties when here....

Hope everyone had a great Easter...

I did now its off to bed ..Night all..

M.xx

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
