Has anyone tried Boca burgers or Morning star foods? How do they go down? I thought this may be a good sub when my kids are eating burgers and such. I don't want to buy a huge package of this stuff because no one else in my family will eat it:)

Hi Mom,

I'm not yet banded, but I love the Boca Burgers. Soy Protein is something I enjoy. I will start using tofu again after surgery. Making shakes with fruit juice, 1/3 cube of tofu and ice cubes. yyumm and very filling

Vegie burgers have been one of my favorite fast high Protein meals since being banded. I like Morningstar Farms better than Boca, but they are very different from each other so worth it to try both. Even though I like MF better, I also like the Boca ones, just in a different way (they have more of a smoky flavor). Now, I don't know how well they will go down when I have full restriction. I just had my second fill today and haven't eaten solids yet since that fill. But, they worked for me after my first fill no problem. I do like to melt a little cheese on them and also dip in ketchup and that probably helps them slide down. And, you gotta be careful not to overcook them because they can become rubbery. But, so far, I have not had any trouble eating the veggie burgers. I do not eat them w/a bun because the few times I have tried bread (even w/very little restriction), it has not felt good going down.

Agreed--veggie burgers are great! And I know Boca has a lot of variety, not sure about Morning Star. If bread gives you a problem, I recommend eating the burger over a bed of sauteed spinach, very yummy! Also, because they can get rubbery in the microwave, I'd suggest pan-cook them on the stovetop if possible, or throwing it on a cookie sheet in the over for 15 min or so.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I like them, and keep a box in my freezer for a quick, easy, and healthy Protein meal. Personally, I don't find them to be very similar in taste to a hamburger, but they are the shape and I use the same Condiments. I think I've only had Morning Star Farms.

Stuckity stuck stuck has been my experience with them, but everyone is different. Even when I tried to moisten them with sauce, they didn't go down well. No more veggie burgers for me - though their profile is great on the calories/fat/protein combo!

I get stuck far too easily. I'll just cross my fingers Sam's has them as a sample soon, and hopefully I will be there:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
