Hysterectomy

Recommended Posts

I found out yesterday i have to have an abdominal hysterectomy. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I should expect. I had 2 c-sections in the past. I figure it can't be any worse. Am I right? How much time off from work will I be needing????

My sister has her's scheduled for Dec 1st. I'll tell you anything I find out. Do you have a date yet? Oh, her doc told her 6 weeks off of work. (((hugs)))

I was only 24 when I had my hysterectomy. I was out of work for a week, but no lifting for six weeks. I can honstly say that having the hysterectomy was the best thing that a Dr. has ever did for me. No more pain every month.

Bernadette

I had what’s called a super-cervical hysterectomy. My doctor went in though the incision of both of my 2 C-sections (scars are on top of each other) and only removed my uterus. I choose to keep my ovaries and cervix since nothing is wrong with them.

She also removed the old scar tissue from the C-sections and gave me a very fine 4” bikini line.

I made the comment to my doctor just before surgery, How bout a Tummy Tuck while your there? She said it’s been done before, that if we were to have arranged it; it would have been possible…

You will be knocked out for this one, not like having babies!

That was done on 7-13-05, 2 days after my 46th birthday. I could have been back to work a week later but the doc wouldn’t let me, 6 week leave mandatory.

I’m very happy to not have that monthly pain anymore, which was the biggest issue. My craps were unbearable; I was a mess emotionally and physically for a week every month. I was one to swell up and gain weight just before that time of the month, but since then I’ve lost about 7 lbs. . I feel free

Best Luck to you

I had an abdominal hyst in '96. Best thing I ever did for myself. Pain.. yes. Temporary situation for much relief. I'd do it again.

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I have mine on 11-16-05. I too had 2 c-sections and my doctor will be cutting over my bikini cut. Thanks for the encouragement!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
