Just wondering. I play ice hockey and have considered the lap band surgery. I weight about 245, and want to get down to about 175-180. Ive done the diet thing, and i play hockey, but literally the only way i lose weight is to go on nothing but an all salad diet. My metabolism is just horrible. I eat less then half of what my brother eats, I exercise, and I stay heavy, i have a huge stomach, the rest of me looks fine. I dont understand why exactly, but its just too damn hard to starve myself in order to lose weight. Like I said i play hockey, and i want to continue to play hockey. So my question is, will this stop me from playing it? i dont play check hockey, but you do get bumped, you fall to the ice frequently, you slam into the boards...crap happens. to me hockey is more important than my weight, so if its something i have to give up, then ill live with the weight.

DUDE! calm down. I just saw your post or I would have responded earlier!

Once you have healed from surgery you can continue to play hockey. I was concerned about similar things...I live in alabama so there is not a lot of hockey going on down here, but I kayak and do lots of other high adventure activities.

I had asked my surgeon if I could go roller skating 3 weeks post op and he said no, but when I went for my last check up, he said, I could do what ever I wanted and that I was not limited from any activity.

My advice is make an appointment and discuss it w/ your doctor.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
