Surgeons and Prices

Recommended Posts

I'm very interested in this procedure.

What surgeon did you use and how much did the procedure cost?

Who do you go to for fills? Are they painful?

Has anyone had the gastric bypass years ago and regained the weight, and now have the band? Has it been successful?

Thank you all!

MC in Baltimore

I used Dr Moazzez and my insurance covered it so I don't know how much it was. I also see him for my fills and they are not painful. The anticipation is the worst part but waiting for a needle is always stressful. My sister had gb years ago and gained back a bit of her weight and she is seeing Dr. Arnez at Fairfax Hospital about getting the band. I think I got the doctors name right.

I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico by Dr. Rumbaut - he is fabulous, and it cost 10,600. But there are credit companies that they use so you can call and see if you can get approved, that way you will just have a monthly bill. I love it. I go to Dr. Brinkley in Frederick, MD for fills, and no, they are not painful. The numbing needle is a little stick, but it passes quickly, and then you can't feel anything. I don't know about the gastric bypass question, my dad had that but he's never regained any weight. I'll find the website for Dr. Rumbaut and post it, or you can google him and find out a lot of information there. Good luck with your information gathering!

My surgeon was Dr. Fred Brody, 2150 Pennsylvania Ave NW, I think the cost was somewhere around 22,600. (insurance covered all but $50 hospital co-pay). I am to go to him for my fills, but I have yet to received one as I was just banded on 10/12.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
