And here we go again. Someone DARES to stand up and disagree with the annointed one and he gets torn to shreds. Joe the Plumber is a working class guy - who was concerned enough (and obviously naive enough to think that Freedom of Speech applied to everybody - rich or poor) to ask a dang question! Guess that'll show all of us working and middle class folks to stand up and disagree!! Shame on us!! What is this country coming to? Oh, that's right - a socialist one. Great.

What is it about? A general discussion on healthcare? What to include, exclude? Other points to along with it? The budget of the thing? There are many many aspects of this bill, that would be why it's several thousand pages long.

Why should it matter if it's televised? Obama would have to know, so that the teleprompter could be ready for him.

Why should it matter who's there? Well if its gonna be all dems and one rebup that seems like a bit of an ambush and you just might prepare a little differently now wouldn't you?

And whining? Who whines more? Hmmm..."We're gonna pass this bill no matter what, if we have to sneak in the back door, or under the fence or pole vault over the fence or skydive in." Yeah thats not whining. Oh, the republicans wont vote for any of our stuff..waaah..well a year ago it didn't matter because the dems were filibuster proof and everyone was onboard on there side right? Oh wait no..all he wants is a fare shake. Why are the dems afraid to give that to him?

What I am saying is that he already knows what it is about (unless he wasn't paying attention) - Healthcare.

And I'm saying that it shouldn't matter if it's on tv, because that's what he wanted.

And I'm saying that it shouldn't matter who is in attendance - what? does he need his bff to go?

What parts of healthcare? Are they discussing everything? Or certain individual parts of the bill? Are they talking policy or round robin discussion on what might be in or could be in? Have you ever sat in on such a discussion so as to know what would be said?

Any meeting that I've ever attended did not discuss in advance in any detail what it was about. The agenda was distributed at the meeting. Boehner should be prepared to discuss the various aspects of healthcare. He certainly has enough to say about it to the media with his laundry list of healthcare demands.

It does matter if it's on TV. Think about you savior Obama he has to know so that the teleprompter can be ready to tell him what to say.

Your savior, Sarah (talk from the hand) Palin, is the one who has made a big deal about telepromters. Every president has used them so I'm not sure where she is coming from. Pres. Obama excels at speaking extemperaneously. His historic speech on race was totally from memory. It will be one for the history books.

Bush, by contrast, could not speak unless it was written for him and put on the telepromter. When he spoke without notes - well, there are whole posters and those daily calendars that contain bushisms. :biggrin:

C'mon! You don't think he knows the other republicans invited? It's even been in the media. And I seriously doubt any meeting would have 100 in attendance from either party.

Actually, people still want healthcare. 58% say they want their representatives to work to get healthcare reform. They might not have liked the senate bill or the house bill, specifically, but americans do want healthcare reform. When Pres. Obama went out the last couple of weeks for townhall meetings, you would think that the majority of questions would be about jobs and the economy but many people wanted to talk about healthcare.

Basically saying we know what's best for the stupid little minions out there. He's not whining he wants a fare shake that no lib is willing to give any republican or conservative.

Give them a fair shake? For what? They haven't done anything but vote no.

This administration has bent over backward to try to get republican input and cooperation but the republicans have voted no against everything put forth by Obama. If I were Obama, I would quit offering them anything and just push through legislation with reconciliation like the republicans did under bush (e.g. the two tax cuts for the rich).

Disillusioned Bayh advocates electoral “shock” to broken system - Yahoo! News

In an interview on MSNBC this morning, newly retiring Sen. Evan Bayh declared the American political system "dysfunctional," riddled with "brain-dead partisanship" and permanent campaigning. Flatly denying any possibility that he'd seek the presidency or any other higher office, Bayh argued that the American people needed to deliver a "shock" to Congress by voting incumbents out in mass and replacing them with people interested in reforming the process and governing for the good of the people, rather than deep-pocketed special-interest groups.

Bayh's announcement stunned the American political world, as up until just last week he looked to be well on his way to an easy reelection for a third term in the Senate, and his senior staff was aggressively pursuing that goal.

But Bayh had apparently become increasingly frustrated in the Senate. In this morning's interview he noted that just two weeks ago, Republicans who had co-sponsored a bill with him to rein in the deficit turned around and voted against their own bill. He also stated repeatedly that members of his own party should be more willing to settle for a compromise rather than holding out for perfection.

"Sometimes half a loaf is better than none," Bayh insisted.

It's no secret that the Senate has struggled to take action this year. With the two major parties unusually far apart in their substantive proposals for the direction of the country, even finding half a loaf to agree on has been difficult. Though the Democrats have had a substantial majority in the Senate for the last year, Republicans have escalated their threats to use filibusters (by forcing a cloture vote, see the graph below) to force Democrats to come up with 60 votes to pass any major legislation. And after Scott Brown's election to the Senate last month gave Republicans a 41st seat, health-care reform and other Democratic goals were stopped dead in their tracks.

Bayh blamed the current atmosphere of intense partisanship on the need for Senators to constantly campaign to be reelected to another six-year term. Citing his father, a popular liberal Senator in the '60s and '70s, he noted that "back in the day they used to have the saying: 'You campaign for 2 years and you legislate for 4.' Now you campaign for 6!" He noted that the need for constant fundraising made it nearly impossible to focus on passing legislation.

Frustration over the increasing amount of money being spent on political campaigns isn't exactly a new thing, as spending by candidates in the 2008 presidential election nearly quadrupled the amount of money spent by candidates in the 2000 election. Additionally, winners of House races in 2000 spent an average of $849,158 to do so, while House winners in 2008 spent an average of $1,372,591. Enhancing the concerns of many on the left and the right has been a recent Supreme Court decision to strike down the country's existing campaign finance laws. Put simply, the ruling opens the door for an even greater influence of money by allowing corporations to directly fund individual candidates.

Meanwhile, voter frustration is high, making the fight for campaign cash all the more crucial to politicians hoping to remain in office. A recent poll found that 44% of Americans believe incumbents should be voted out of office.

However, reforms of Congress appear unlikely. There doesn't appear to be any significant momentum at this time behind efforts to change the rules that govern passing legislation or Congress's need to constantly campaign and fundraise. With an election year beginning, it's also unlikely that congressional leaders will begin to see eye to eye more often on major legislation.

Perhaps a "shock" is indeed called for in order to change that.

Most meeting’s I’ve attended the agenda is posted before hand and you know what is new business, old business etc. This is usually everyone who is going to attend the meetings right to know.

I challenge you to find ANYTHING ANYWHERE on the internet of me saying that Sarah Palin is my savior, or even that I so much as like Sarah Palin. You’ll find that you can’t because I do not like her. The people want a good reform bill, not the bits and pieces Obama and the dems can jam in while their still in power. They’re playing games over and over again, such as not letting Kennedy’s replacement be seated because he’d throw off the vote not voting the way killer teddy would have. Of course people want to talk about healthcare because their scared of losing what they have. Obama just admitted that some sneaky little devil snuck something into the bill that would force you to give up your doctor and ins, after a year of preaching you wouldn’t. Hmmm… strange, who woulda thought they would do something like that.

Yes a fair shake. Which you are admitting he’s not getting and your saying he and no other conservative deserves because they have been blocking Obama’s agenda. Well guess what, if the people who elected them, want them to block Obama’s agenda, that’s what they need to be doing. So good for them. First of all, in the context of the post that was most definitely satire, I do not think there is anything a great about Iraq. Get that straight first. Next, if you pay attention to the news, other then the gov supplied talking points of CNN and MSNBC, you would know that in fact the great one's partner VP Biden said last week that Iraq is a success of the Obama administration. Here it is, probably on one of your favorite news channels. In the future it would serve you well to be honest with your quotes and include the context to prevent you from looking like a tool shed. There are many democrats in both the house and senate who are DINOs (Democrats in Name Only) and they vote more like republicans. But some democrats have voted against things that weren't progressive enough. Like if it didn't have the public option in it.

The republicans who consistently vote no are all in safe districts who always vote republican. They don't have to worry about being re-elected. They can just be obstructionists and get re-elected. However, the rest of america is sick of this obstructionism and wants things to get done.

And remember that the democrats never had 60 votes in the senate, they had 58 and 2 independents - one of which was Lieberman who votes more with the republicans. And some of those democrats like Nelson, Landreiu, Lincoln can not be counted on for their votes.

But despite all this, both the house and senate managed to pass a health care bill. So when people say the democrats had the votes and it wasn't republican obstructionists who have been a problem- they forget this. While the republicans vote like they share one brain, the democrats don't.
