I have a killer headache, and I tried taking some of my leftover tylenol with codeine (I'm 3 weeks post op) but it didn't help much.

I have an empty band. Do you think I can take ibuprofen tablets?

I was told no NSAIDS ever because they can cause an ulcer in the stomach. I swear by Excedrin, it contains caffeine and acetaminophen and is aspirin free.

Hope your headache goes away!

Make sure your Excedrin Headache really IS aspirin-free--the bottle in my cabinet contains aspirin (plus the acetaminophen-caffeine combo)---which is, as an NSAID, a no-go.

My surgeon said no NSAIDS because it can perforate the stomach around the band... and ALL excedrine has aspirin in it..

They sell Asprin free Excedrin. I'd stick with liquid tylenol..that's what I've been using. I was told no whole pills for at least a month. I'm still crushing my meds..YUCK

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up sucking it up and taking more Tylenol with Codeine (liquid). I'm snowed in up in the Northeast, so I had to go with what I had on hand, and it was either my surgery meds or ibu.

Thanks again, gang!

whats wrong with asprin? I still take an 81mg for my heart. Should I not be?

I'd recommend asking both your lapband doc and your PCP (or whomever told you to take the 81 mg aspirin) about this. Often times, if it is coated, it won't dissolve until it's lower in the stomach. This is one of those cases where it may be ok to take it.

My doc was okay with taking the Motrin children's chewables and washing them down with Water. Tylenol does nothing for a headache for me, it is either the Motrin or Migraine meds that will resolve the problem. It sounds like physicians just don't want it sitting in your stomach for any length of time.

NOPE, you are wrong! I am holding my bottle and it reads as follows: Excedrin Tension Headache

Acetominophen and Caffeine

Aspirin Free * Pain Reliever/ Reliever Aid

Express Gels

My surgeon advised me to return to taking my 81mg aspirin 6 mos. post op but it had to be coated aspirin.

My doc is same. No NSAIDS/Advil....What I rely on for cramping. They did say that if I needed I could take Advil Liquid gels. But I figure I am going to try other things first.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
